Family motto

After much thought, and a great dream, I've decided on my family motto. "To hold decency at bay" In this case decency is the forces
of puritanism, the blue noses, and political correctness. I've tried many of the machine translation websites but they just don't get it. It seems that the hardest part is the sense of holding something at bay. Could some kind human provide a translation with the right spirit?
Thanks,
TJ

The basics of holding at bay is to keep something at arms length. Not to let it get too close to you.

For example: In a war, one tries to hold the enemy forces at bay...keep the danger from getting too near.

With mental health, in order to hold memory loss at bay there are many mental exercises such as word games and stimulating conversation. Both of these have proven to at least hold at bay rapid memory loss....kept memory loss from advancing rapidly.

Your family motto of 'To hold decency at bay' seems to have something with not wanting the standards of society to become part and parcel of the day to day life of your family...the family wanted to stay with their own beliefs and not be forced into the thinkings of someone else.

These are just loose translations, and I am sure someone else will offer a better response.
