Only whackos consider impeachment as even close to being logical.

Arlen Specter - Republican

"Well, the remedy could be a variety of things. A president - and I'm not suggesting remotely that there's any basis, but you're asking, really, theory, what's the remedy? Impeachment is a remedy. After impeachment, you could have a criminal prosecution, but the principal remedy, George, under our society is to pay a political price."

Report Rebuts Bush on Spying
Domestic Action's Legality Challenged

A report by Congress's research arm concluded yesterday that the administration's justification for the warrantless eavesdropping authorized by President Bush conflicts with existing law and hinges on weak legal arguments.

"It appears unlikely that a court would hold that Congress has expressly or impliedly authorized the NSA electronic surveillance operations here," the authors of the CRS report wrote. The administration's legal justification "does not seem to be . . . well-grounded," they said.

You really gotta wonder just who the whackos are. Did you say the same thing about Nixon?

Impeachment is not a viable solution. Bush gone; you get Cheney. Bush and Cheney gone; you get Speaker of the House Dennis Hastart. Impeachment would divert public attention away from the need to eliminate one party control of the branches of government.

Better to redirect voters attention to work on the 2006 election and defeat as many Republicans as possible in the House and in the Senate. That will be very difficult to do as not enough seats are competitive.

If Democrats can at least obtain a majority in the Senate if not the House, it will provide the voting power needed to hold hearings, appoint a special prosecutor, etc., to investigate and expose what has been going on. That would rein in Bushco and be less difficult than impeachment.
