Wondering why my pierced ear bleeds after 12 weeks

Hey all,

I got my left ear pierced about a week before Thanksgiving. Didn't have any issues with it for awhile, took it out as stated after 6 weeks, cleaned and put it back in..blah blah..

Anyway, after removing it the 2nd time about two weeks later, It was hard to remove the post, then there was blood on it and some bleeding. I kept the earring out for a day, and then put it back in again (after putting it in peroxide and using antibiotic cream on the earring and in and around the ear. A day later, same issue when removing it and again bleeding.

Now, I just got a loop earring and put it in today. (12th week). It was fine, when I removed it tonight, I noticed some blood around the back and front of a ear where the hole is. It was a quick clean. Put peroxide on my ear, both front and back in and around the hole and antibiotic cream as well.

Any thoughts on why the ear bleeds after removing the earring 12 weeks later? Any suggestions?

A couple of questions for clarification here:

1) Is this a standard earlobe piercing, or is this a tattoo-shop piercing with a gauged post or loop in it?

2) If it's a lobe piercing, what kind of stud do you currently have in it? IE: What type of metal.

Bleeding from a new piercing (even one over 12 weeks old) isn't all that uncommon. If such occurs, I would recommend that you put a clean, surgical steel or gold stud in your ear and medicate it with neosporin or some other type of ointment for a week or so.

Or, if the blood doesn't bother you and you don't see any signs of infection just keep your hoop in. Either way, you don't want to go without at least a post in your ear else it will likely close up on you.
