I am not normally one who goes for all these conspiracy theory thingummyjigs, but I AM beginning to wonder.

Methinks there is a Jesuswagon out there somewhere, stopping at every shaking snakehandler gathering, handing out the A2K website address.

You have a point, squinney, and you may well be right. To me, much of it has to do with the first presentation. The originator of this thread did not appear to me to be a sincere poster, despite the stated topic. Otherwise, I think I would have let the thread percolate along, or coagulate if that be the case, and only then dip in, if it struck me that I wanted to enter. Can't speak for others, of course.

(blushing) I just REALLY needed to get that off my chest. It's been building for some time.

Edgar, no, I know. I hope it didn't come across as a personal attack. You just provided the segue for me. Thank you for doing so.

This obviously pleased the crowd, but it's little more than rhetorical, emotion-laden anti-Bush via anti-Christian screed.

dagmarka has hit the nail on the head. This is the reason the thread didn't get any respect from the get go.

If it had been me, you would have respected it?

Had MA started it, would you have respected it and stayed away?

What if Intrepid had started this thread? Or Husker?

Naw, I think the problem is we're all feeling a little run over. We've got Jesus' tread marks all over us. "They" are taking over our political system, Supreme Court, legislative branches, and presidency. They are injecting themselves into our business, public parks and even into our homes via tv, radio and print news.
Quote:
A group of Christians has come in and changed the neighborhood. Truthfully, it's sort of funny to me. "Feeling a little run over" wasn't fun for me, either. But, "they", squinney? Aren't you a Christian? I remember you saying you were--and if you are, are you guilty of "taking over our political system, Supreme Court, legislative branches, and presidency,[...] injecting [yourself] into our business, public parks and even into our homes via tv, radio and print news"?

We have to listen to stupid stuff like tv preachers calling for assisination, how Christ is being taken out of Christmas ( Rolling Eyes - like the fact that stores depend on the season to make most all of their profits hasn't done that already) and Falwell opening a Law School to train Christian judges so as to get us on their more moral path.
Quote:
As a Christian, are you as guilty of these things as MA is? Am I, too?

We have a president that claims to talk to God and God told him to go to war against a country that had not smited us first. We have other leaders, claiming to have the moral high ground and represent our "values" who lie, steal, kill, cheat / divorce, and break most -if not all - of the Commandments on a daily basis.
Quote:
Who do you blame for this?

We hear over and over again "Render unto Caeser..." only to have Caeser also want our children, our property, and our souls.

Yes, our souls.
Quote:
A little over-emotional, I think we can agree.

If you think you have one, our Christian President would like to have it. (Please give generously for your own safety and the safety of your family and loved ones) The way I see it, if we continue to allow torture, rendition, unjustified war, failure to assist those in need here at home while supporting laws that make the rich richer, and fail to tend our garden as instructed and care for Gods planet... We are giving away our souls.
Quote:
Is any of this even marginally substantiated? It's just too far out there. A rant.

So, I don't really think it would matter who started this thread. Some of us are tired of having a religion thrown in our faces as some sort of positive attribute, when it's apparent to many that the distortions necessary to go along with this kind of tripe is decidely NOT Christian.
Quote:
How would you differentiate having Christianity thrown in your face--from atheism, agnosticism, Holding one's dominion, or osso's trip to Albaturkey thrown in your face? Why is one so bad? And, it is tiring to still have people, who appear to know better, pretending that Christianity equates with perfection. Everybody is a hypocrite.

Having said all of that, may our soldiers return home safe and sound to a better country than the one that sent them into harms way.
Quote:
Amen to that
.

Squinney has the right to these feelings. I just think it should be pointed out that very little, if any, of it is factual.

As of Monday the 9th, at least 2,201 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003. Lord we give praise and honor to those brave people and their families in doing the duties that they were charged to do for this country.

Why should this thread get any special treatment? Digressions are commonplace; sometimes a topic stays on topic, or wanders some and returns, and sometimes a topic doesn't. Complaining about it ain't likely to do anything but encourage further digression, or wind up killingoff the discussion altogether. At the worst case, such siliness devolves into name-calling and assorted other nastiness, and the topic goes away entirely. If one objects to off-topic posts, why respond to or even acknowledge them? Seems sorta counter-productive, IMO - you wanna stay on topic, stay on topic and interact only with those who do likewise. If nobody on a thread is on topic, that prolly says something too.

I'm reminded of the story of the proud mother watching her son marching among the troops parading by. "Look at them", she exclaimed balefully, "Thousands and thousands of them, and every one of them out of step with my dear Johnny!"

Right timber. It's really stupid of me to ask that maybe just one time people could show a little respect since this is what I and others consider pretty important.

I mean gee, can't ask anyone to respect anything right? I mean, dang, that's like asking them to take some responsibility for their own actions and maybe just once not be selfish acting.

I know what it says to me about those that refuse to stay on the topic.

I know what your argument says to me:

Once again, why should this thread be any different from any other thread on A2K - because its special to you? Hardly defensible.

Gotta say that in this specific regard you're the source of any sadness, disappointment, or other inconvenience or unpleasantness you perceive. Everybody here plays the game by choice; nobody forces anyone onto the field.
