Wealthy School Apologizes For 'Food Stamps' Chant

MIDDLETON, Wis. -- Officials at a Wisconsin high school are apologizing for insults chanted at a basketball game.

In their chant, fans of a suburban Madison school insulted their city opponents by suggesting they need food stamps to eat.

The Middleton High School fans chanted "food stamps, food stamps" and "Os-car May-er" during a game against Madison East on Dec. 20.

Middleton is a well-to-do suburb, while 40 percent of Madison East's students are eligible for federally subsidized lunches.

Oscar Mayer's headquarters lies in East's attendance area.

Middleton officials sent a letter of apology to East on Friday.

Middleton's principal said three seniors started the chant and they've offered to apologize.

East got the last laugh. They beat Middleton 66-55.

Interesting how those students have riches -- none of which they earned -- but a total lack of character...and yet they still think they're better.

They and their parents need a swift kick in the ass. Really, the world's problems would be solved if we simply had a designated team of ass-kickers that went after anyone caught misbehaving in any way. Children would know exactly where they belong in society, terrorists would all go back to living a life worth living, and Michael Jackson would have to sit on a donut for the rest of his life.

They need to get those kids a few night shifts in the sausage factory to see what real life is all about. Sad

I think it's more of a recurring theme throughout history, blue.

Lack of character goes hand-in-hand with unearned wealth.

Blueveinedthrobber, true, true. Smile

Wilso, I would have to disagree. Not through any direct evidence, but from observation. I've known plenty of people throughout my life -- children and adults alike -- that had unearned riches but were full of character, and those that worked hard for what they had but never gained any trace of true character.

It seems to me that how a person was raised has more to do with their personality than how hard they worked for what they have. Though, that's not saying that hard work never helped out.
