Target, among other things, does not meet my cost for quality requirements.

Really? That's the least of my concerns re: Target. The bulk of what I buy there are things I'd buy elsewhere for more money (specific brands of toilet paper or shampoo) or little cheap things that aren't meant to be anything but cheap (goody-bag contents, miscellaneous doodads for sozlet, etc.).

How many of you think about where you shop or what happens to your money after you let go of it? Does it matter if it ends up in the hands of people you would never give money to if asked?

I do think of it, and concluded that I'm not going to make it part of my decision where to shop. I would hate it if my employer stopped buying my services just because it decided that libertarians are evil. It's just none of their business. If I stopped shopping at company x because I don't like their politics, I would be guilty of the same transgression. I would be meddling in affairs that are not mine to meddle with. Apart from that, I approve of most of the the things generally considered evil, such as outsourcing to sweatshops in China, India and so forth.

But of course, that's just my perspective.

I knew about Target.... I still shop there. I'm addicted. Also, in my defense (heh), they underwrite on NPR.

I was surprised to see that priceclub/costco was so pro-dems.

Within reason there's nothing wrong with that.

I doubt that if you knew a particular store was using it's profits to fund terrorism or child pornography you would shop in it no matter how low its prices were.

If you knew that Wal-Mart was using press gangs to Shanghai its employees and literally forcing them to work long hours for pitiful wages you probably wouldn't shop there either.

In each of these cases, of course, the authorities would have preceded you and shut the places down.

The notion that Wal-Mart, Target, IKEA, or any other of the companies listed in this thread are "evil," is silly.
