What was the cause of the Peloponnesian Wars in Greece? Was it a fight for control of a certain land?
The power of the Delian league was growing quickly that age and that was a threat from Sparta.
The things that caused the war were many actions of Athens against Spartan allies. To be more specific when Corinth, ally of Sparta, tried to invade Corcyra (Corfu), Athens got in the way and started attacking some Corinthian colonies. Also Athens had great economical influence in Megara (also Spartan ally). This thing was not good for Sparta.
For me the deep reason is the eternal habit of us Greeks to fight each other. Peloponnesian is unfortunately not the only example in Greek history.
They knew that one day there would be a forum in which this question would be put forward and so they decided that the only way to make sure that it would happen and to ensure a lively debate, along with what they hoped would be a long running thread they would have to get a war going.
Believe you me, this information is true and you can put it on your essay paper carterhreese.
