First, go see your doctor again.

Second, it happens sometimes. I was an athlete in high school and WAY too thin and stopped menstruating for awhile. If you are either of those things, (especially athletic, especially thin) that could be it -- but it could also be a sign of other health problems.

Talk to your doc about it.

Good luck!

Have you been menstruating on a regular basis and just started to have problems? I promise you it has nothing to do with you
"being part guy", but it could be hormonal. I agree with Sozobe that you should see a doctor (maybe a different doctor). Do you have a Planned Parenthood Clinic near you? Not because of pregnancy, but just to have a basic GYN. exam. Some women never have regular periods, but yours has been missing for a long time and it's worth having a check up. Ask your doctor about adding soy products to your diet. If you went to an herbalist they would tell you to drink motherwort tea, but you should ask your doctor first if that is OK.

It's not so much that it would cause problems as that it would be the symptom of a problem.

If you don't get your period it usually means (depending on a few things) that you weren't fertile the previous month. Menstruation is shedding some of the layers that were built up in your uterus ready to receive a fertilized egg. If you are not building up these layers, you don't menstruate (there's nothing to shed). Menstruation is an indication that you're fertile (ready to get pregnant).

If you're not menstruating now, that doesn't mean that you can't get pregnant now (though I know you said you're a virgin, just in case it's an issue) -- menstruation is a retroactive indication that you WERE fertile in the month before it occurs. You might be currently fertile and ready to menstruate in a couple of weeks.

The fact that you're not menstruating right now doesn't necessarily mean you can't have a baby later -- I mentioned that I went through something similar but then regulated my periods (with the help of medication) and then when I was ready to have a baby, conceived without too much problem. However it does mean that something is amiss with your reproductive system -- maybe minor, maybe not, worth having checked out.

My advice is to make an appointment now to see your doc in February, at the very least.

Good luck!

Didn't see Green Witch, I agree that Planned Parenthood is a good resource.

The word I used was menstruating, not masterbating - and masterbating has nothing to do with your period either way. I think you should tell you mother you are concerned about the problem and it would make you feel much better if a doctor confirmed that there is nothing wrong with you. Tell her you need her support in this matter and you want her take you seriously and not dismiss your worries. I think it is important for a young woman and her mother to communicate and respect each other at this time in their relationship.

You might also go to your library and look up a book called
"Our Bodies Ourselves". It's a classic for understanding how our bodies work and will explain all the things your mother might feel embarassed to talk about.

Menstruate is another word for having your period.

Heartily second the "Our Bodies, Ourselves" recommendation.

Check back and let us know how it goes. You should have no trouble finding the book, like I said, it's a classic read for most young women.
