Arabic Help

I was just wondering about two things... Firstly I've heard that Baten Kaitos in Arabic translates roughly to "Belly of the Sea Monster". May I ask which bits correspond to what and how to pronounce that?

Secondly, what is the Arabic for hero and how would you pronounce it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

happy new year Wolf_ODonnell

I am not familiar with the word for Sea Monster so won't be able to help you with the pronunciation of it.

Ba'tun - short a as in father - short u as in rune but shorter

hero is Batal - short a as in father
also means champion.

hope this helps.

Yes, thank you very much. What you've given me helps a lot. A shame about the Kaitos, thing. I hear it's also exchangable for the word, whale.

You see, I heard the star Zeta Ceti used to be called Baten Kaitos. I just wanted to know how it was pronounced.

Thank you once again for your help.

P.S. I just realised I'd like to know the Arabic for Guardian as well. Would you mind helping me with that one too? Sorry for not mentioning it sooner, but I kinda forgot. Embarrassed

P.P.S. Where are my manners? I wish you a Happy New Year as well. Thank you for your help.

note:
there are two types of H in arabic, rough and smooth.

The smooth is like the english H, the rough is like when a dog pants (ie. the throat is more contracted and it comes it more raspy)

use the rough aspiration for Haras
