Great, thanks. You seemed a bit, er, irritated. How 'bout you? Did you have a nice holiday?

Your reason for believing in God is just that you think it's your best bet? If I were God, I'm not sure I would let you in the gate.

I am god, and I'll never consider him for entry into my kingdom.

C.I., knocking on God's door.
God: "Who's there?"
C.I.: "me".
God: "Go away."
Later after years of meditation and philosophical inquiry, C.I., returns to God's door and knocks again.
God: "Who's there?"
C.I.: "You."
God: "Come in."

J_B,

Nah, doing fine. Irritated? Nope. Just not putting up with crap anymore. Had a very nice holiday. The whole family finally got together for Christmas dinner after 31 years.

C.I.,

I wish you would stop mocking God like that. I really do.

The problem with 'pascals wager' is that it only really works if you apply it to all forms of worship that threaten a negative consequence for not believing.
Leaving one in the awkward position of trying to follow multiple religions simultaneously to avoid their respective punishments. As you might imagine, this would be problematic.

Oh it would be problematic alright. Good for me I only have to follow mine then I guess. Smile

I believe in God. I have my reasons as to why. I wouldn't be here right now if there wasn't a God.
No, not true. You wouldn't be here if your parents never had sex. God had nothing to do with your birth or the birth of everybody that ever lived on this planet.

This is a weak argument. I didn't say I wouldn't have been born. I said I wouldn't be here. As in dead, kicked the bucket, maybe even sleeping with the fishes....

Quote:
Sorry to disappoint you, but your "belief" has nothing to do with reality. Can you honestly tell me how many actually lived the life they were called upon to live?

Just as soon as you tell me how many haven't... Smile

"..if there is a God..." is the big 64,000 dollar question. Nothing other than the bible says so.

Not true. I believe there's several million people that have said the same...

Quote:
Do you mean to tell me that christians don't have disappointments? Wow, that's a new revelation for me! LOL

Come on now... your gagging me with the words you keep putting in my mouth! If you are going to respond to something at least respond to the whole statement! Sheesh... and the statement was:

Quote:
How many times did that thing they hoped for disappoint them though? I'm happy to say that God has never disappointed me.

GOD has never disappointed me.

Quote:
Do you fear spending eternity in hell? Ofcoarse you do. You would not otherwise be so brain-washed with utter fear.

Nope actually I don't.

Quote:
Good for you, but you need to learn about a) reality, b) logic, c) common sense, d) truth, e) science, and f) where you came from. !

I'm aware of all those things thank you very much. I just have not chosen to apply them to my life in the same manner as you.

Quote:
You don't think that, I dunno, maybe it was you who did that?

Echi Nope, I don't. I know it wasn't me.

Quote:
Given all the choices we have to choose from for 'God', I wasn't quit sure which one you meant. I still think you're talking about El, but who knows? You might have found a personal diety. I tend to think the Amerindians were closer than anyone regarding divinity. From a pantheistic standpoint I think God probably exists, but it isn't the same one you're thinking of.

JB sarcasm will get you nowhere with me. Smile

Heph, numbers don't count (e.g., you said "I believe there's several million people that have said the same... "). Remember, millions thought the world was flat; their impressive consensus did not make it flat.

You don't know me very well. I don't do sarcasm.

You posted a thread titled, "Does God exist?" and then proceeded to post your 'theory' about the existance of your God. I find it highly arrogant to think that the undefined God of your theory would be the definition of 'God' to anyone else taking part of this discussion.

Believe it or not, hephzibah, there are numerous God's in the world. I'm much more interested in the concept of there being any God, than whether you have been taken by the real one.

He only does it because it gives him some perverted pleasure to do so. Folks that don't have any rational things to say usually resort to this kind of childish behaviour. They don't believe in anything but themselves and can't stand the fact that rational, intelligent people can believe in something that they can only mock. He really deserves pity rather than scorn.

J_B,

You don't have to answer this. I can't remember if I ever asked it before or not. But, feel free to tell me Nunya, ok?

Did you say you were a Christian or not?

Yeah, but what we're talking about here is theory because not everyone believes the same. So regardless of how many do or don't believe the theory at hand, that doesn't discredit the fact that those who do believe are still a source of "saying" that God exists.

Not in your sense of Christianity, Momma. I believe strongly in the message of Jesus in how we treat our fellow man. I think Paul went a long way toward destroying that message and created a religion about Jesus instead of spreading the religion of Jesus.

I've also said, in other threads, that my personal leanings vary between pantheism and deism, depending on which side of the bed I get up on. I am very active in my church and also consider myself a Uniterian Christian (which is not an oxymoron).
