Graz removes Schwarzenegger name.

Officials in Arnold Schwarzenegger's Austrian hometown of Graz have removed his name from a football stadium in an ongoing row over the US death penalty.

The large metal letters were taken off the arena overnight.

The California governor has said he no longer wants to be honoured by Graz, where he has been criticised for denying clemency to a death row inmate.

Former movie star and bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of Austria's most famous sons.

This muscleman is getting weirder as time goes by. He has a great capacity to make enemies. It seems high time to replace him with a normal person.

The story is a bit different. When Graz heard of Ahnolds dilemma over giving Tookie the needle. They stated that they werent sure they wanted Ahnolds name associated with their town IF he went through with the execution.
Then Ahnold sent, what we basically call a "cease and desists" notice to Gratz that said , in effect
"You ARE USING MY NAME to promote your town , and this is being done without my permission, so herewith, remove all signs with my name on "

I think he had the last laugh.
After all, he did wish Tookie a Very Merry Christmas

To presume that a town is not allowed to use the name of a former citizen is absurd and arrogant..

If New York would have to ask permission to use the name of New Yorkers, it might have to hire a thousand new civil servants.

well, I guess you think you told me. PS, the operative is "without my permission". Its something like copywright protection.

He could sue if he wished, itd be up to a court to decide who was correct.

Last night, btw, (sic! NIGHT!), the letters were removed. (The town council didn't want that someone photographed that.)

The stadium now got back its old traditional name "Stadium Graz-Liebenau".

The honourable ring of the city of Graz is back from California as well - it is thought of placing it in the town museum.
