I remember those, OaK. We'll have to have a '70s-80s dance at Lola's some evening...I'll bring the Dan Fogelberg and James Taylor.
I'll try to pick my top 5.....
1.Nirvana - everyone knows nevermind and in utero are amazing. I also like incesticide, from the muddy banks of the wishka, unplugged in new york, bleach. The greatest hits cd can kiss my ass....Nirvana greatest hits can only be done correctly as a box set.
alright here is 2-5 in no particular order:
Bob Dylan, skynyrd, CCR, and.....i dont know kid rock because of his versatility. He is southern rock, rock , rap, hip hop, country and just about all the rest put into 1 singer. 2-5 is hard for me....i'm really only sure about number 1.
my all time favorite album right now is "Air - The Virgin Suicides"
Hi Viz == James Taylor, yeah he did some great music, as did Carole King. Her Tapestry album is a real stand-out goody. I bought the CD recently, I wore out the vynil a good many years ago. Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds all come to mind as well. The list is endless.
Hey OAK,
...I was just about to put Carole's "Tapestry", on the CD tray, but Bonnie Raitt, came between us. (Decisions, decisions, decisions)
...How about you guys? You ever spend minutes of self-debate, trying to decide which group of CD's, or whatever, goes on next?
I saw Bonnie Rait recently. She headlined over Lyle Lovett and had no right to do so. He let her because he was still hobbled from being gored by a bull. Anyway, Lyle's band rocked and was spot on. Bonnie's band sounded like they were all reading different sheet music for the first four songs.
Did i see you down
In a young girl's town
With yer mother in so much pain
I was almost there
At the top of the stair
With her screamin' in the rain . . .
----------------------------------------------------------
Round and round and round we spin
To weave a wall to hem us in
It won't be long . . . it won't be lo-o-o-ong
How slow and slow and slow it goes
To mend the tear that always shows
It won't be long, it won't be long.
Its hard enough losin'
The paper illusion
You've hidden inside
Without the confusion
Of findin' yer usin'
The crutch of a lie
To shelter your pride when you cry
-----------------------------------------------
If you see him in the subway,
He'll be down at the end of the car.
Watching you move
Until he knows he knows who you are.
When you get off at your station alone,
He'll know that you are.
Know when you see him,
Nothing can free him.
Step aside, open wide,
It's the loner.
-----------------------------------------------
Yeah, that Neil Young sucks, i try to avoid listenin' to that clown . . .
Hey Booman, choosing what to listen to, it's a constant quandry.
CDs at home but in the car it's tape cassettes (no CD) or the radio.
Guess you had to be there. They finally got in tune after the fourth song. It's hard to be worse than the Grateful Dead and have anyone listen to you.
Let me clarify that for non Dead fans. The Dead were an awesome experience live, I saw them five or six times, but they were improvisational, often playing off in their own little world, forgetting the lyrics, etc. You had to put up with that.
It's the band's fault!...Not my sweet Bonnie..
I didn't know that about the Dead Cj. How do they have such famously loyal fans?
Q: What did all the Deadheads say when they ran out of pot?
A: This music sucks!
Q: Why did all the Deadheads go to Santa Cruz?
A: They heard there were no jobs.
Q: How many Deadheads does it take to change a light bulb.
A: They don't change it; they just follow the burnt-out bulb around the country.
Because being a deadhead is a lifestyle choice. They often showed signs of brilliance too, mixed in with the miscues. Another aspect is that they made most of their money touring, rarely released albums, because you couldn't capture their essense in the studio.
Fans were allowed and encouraged to record their concerts, duplicate and share their music. Bootleg Dead still has a huge following, though it isn't really bootleg at all.
There's tons of stuff out now on CD, live performances going under the guise of Dick's Picks, but for a feel of what a concert was like, try Dead Set. For a studio album, try Terrapin Station.
The Dead was about being openly and freely stoned with 20,000 other like-minded people. (Not that there's a damn thing wrong with that...)
OaK -- James Taylor is still capable of making very good music. Listen to his current release, October Road. It came out last fall. Wonderful songs.
My all time favorite album has to be Meat Loaf.... Bat out of Hell..
Hi grace - welcome to A2K!
