My favorite is a small album:

1958 Miles .. Miles Davis

Noted for future purchase.

I've just got into Milestones (and bought another 6 Davis albums on offer at HMV - £4.99 - I couldn't refuse)!!!

Hey Booman, I did mention in my post that I was a Gil Scott-Heron fan....also, we should not forget the pioneering Blowfly.... Cool

kitchenpete, 'Kind of Blue' is awesome. I would add a lot of Miles to my list, including 'In a Silent Way' and 'Bitches Brew'. My fave Stevie Wonder album is still 'Songs in the Key of Life'. Although not a chart topper, Nine Inch Nails' 'The Fragile' is a true marvel of production.

Violet Lake - Are you ready to be heartbroken?

(I've got all but one of Lloyd Cole's albums and like the earliest ones best!)

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Watch
Frank Zappa - You Are What You Is
Frank Zappa - Sheik Yerbouti
Madonna - True Blue
SAGA - Silent Knight
Tesla - Five Man Acoustical Jam (ages before everything turned unplugged)

You mentioned it Cav,
...That's why I mentioned he was an early rapper. Remember "Watergate"?
KP,
...I got "Kind of Blue", last year. Also, speaking of "Sketches in Spain"; Years ago, I got my first non-drug high, from, "Concierto De Arguenjeus" Cool
(I hope I spelled it right, it's been over forty years.)

Booman , how's your Big Apple lookin these days ?

All time fave albums. Well I think I've defined my three.

#1 Bat Out Of Hell 2 cos the lyrics are both wierd and brilliant.
I've played it hundreds of times, but the lyrics still slay me

#2 Led Zep 2 cos I'de never previous heard nor heard since such a range of rock and roll style on one album. I played it today when I drove downtown and sounded just right

#3 John Lee Hooker, Blues Before Sunrise , coz he makes me listen to his songs by the energy in his voice. His song, I'm Going Upstairs does it for me

My favorite song, Dust My Broom by Robert Johnson.

Snood, and Cavfancier,
...I can address both of your posts in one reply. rap didn't begin with Kurtis Blow, or the sugar Hill Gang. Before them there was Gil Scott-Heron, The Last Poets, Lou Rawls, and more. I heard my first full rap in the middle fifties, "Be-Bop Santa Claus". ...I remember thee early rap numbers fondly, but I never repeat them like I do an old melody, and nobody covers them. So while the most creative numbers will be fondly remembered, they won't get the oldies treatment.
...As a mater of fact. Today you can hear people, in their late thirties, and early forties, singing songs from the early eighties, but how often do you hear someone doin' a hip-hop song from the same time period.

A very analytical answer to a very tongue in cheek question.

Yes Booman- I'm aware rap didn't start with 50 Cent...

"You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the US of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', 'Dick', and 'Colon'. Need I say more?"

Cav and Boo,

"Sketches of Spain" (yes, including Rodrigo's Concierto d'Aranjuez - spelling could be wrong!) is amazing.

I often find myself whistling that as I walk down the street. Quite a complex tune to remember - it takes many plays, all of them enjoyable.

I've recently been getting into "Saxophone Colossus" by Sonny Rollins, with Max Roach on drums, which is Awesome! About 1956, if memory serves me...a great era for jazz!

Interacting with people younger than I, whether in person or on-line, is one thing that helps keep my attitude youthful when compared with other old goats my age.

Therefore, I appreciate your listing of favorite albums -- and welcome a point in time different than my own.

Thank you.

I was having a rummage thru my audio cassettes cos I now got a set of wheels with a working sound system. I found some tapes by Talking Heads, Tom Petty and a concert tape by some outfit called Queen. Nostalgis time once more

I just picked up a remastered AC/DC CD, Highway to Hell, for $10 at Target. Those guys really rocked. Years ago I had the album but it was destroyed in an overheated hatchback accident.
