Interesting assortment - I kind of like Tanya Tucker's voice too sometimes - and love Lauren Hill's and Tori Amos' voices.

I like your signature and screen name SeaAsleep

Thanks, Aidan. Smile I really like your signature too, especially the line about the fields being "royal with birds". My screenname comes from a Doctor Who quote Smile: “There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea's getting cold. Come on, Ace. We've got work to do."

I'm not really into country but I grew up listening to Tanya Tucker and I never forgot that particular album. Bjork, Lauren and Tori all have beautiful if disparate voices. 'The Miseducation...' and 'Boys for Pele' are both such perfect albums from start to finish. Tori in particular hasn't disappointed me yet.

Thanks- that's my favorite part of it too. My daughter had to do a poetry project in fourth or fifth grade and she found the poem as part of that. I was happy to find that she has such a good ear.

Not a Sci-Fi fan - so I'm embarrassed to say I've never even watched a single episode of Doctor Who - but the first part of that quote is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for posting it. Hope to see you around some more-Aidan

Pearl Jam -- Ten

I listened to this CD over and over, until I had to dig giant gobs of ear wax from my poor, tortured ears daily...there is no better album...nor will there ever be.

Has anybody noticed, that all the favorite albums are mainly rock based?

As this is a site for intellectuals (or so I like to think) Then this must lead us to some kind of conclusion that rock music is more intellectual than other types of music, such as say... R&B.
This leads me to a second conclusion, that as R&B is the enemy of rock, and Commoness is the opposite of intelectualism, R&B is actually just a pile of **** that chavs eat macdonalds to.
Savy?

That's an ignorant conclusion. The fact that the people ON THIS PARTICULAR SITE list mostly rock albums as their favorites is simply an indication of just who is on this site and nothing more. Mostly intellectuals on this site? And that opinion is based on what? Your own desire to feel superior?

Here, here. R&B goes way back. And anyone who says Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye have nothing to do with rock and roll is crazy.

I know that's not the same thing as contemporary R&B, but it comes from the same place, and that's a place that influenced even Bob Dylan, a favorite reference among rock and roll "intellectuals."

Well I agree with us being great.

No, the stones could count as R&B if you mean rhythm and blues, I mean ccontemparyR&B which stands for rhythm and bass, aka noise.

And thank you seibentage.

eoe: No its not ignorant, its just presumes a bit.
Use your imagination.
I consider most people on here to be intellectuals, for lack of a better word, because who else would spend time online talking to complete strangers about topics they are passionate about in a sophisticated manner?

Queen, let me remind you that slamming a whole genre of music doesn't make one an intellectual. In fact I have never heard a musician dismiss R&B out of hand. There is good in all forms of music and a thoughtful ,intelligent poster should understand (Urban) R&B and from where it evolved.
The fact that so many posters included rock albums on their favorite lists only points out the demographics of the A2K membership that choose to post on this thread.

Just my nickel

Im not slamming a wholegenre of music.
Im just rounding up a bit.

Here's an example. My whole a level music tech class had to bring in a song to play to the others so we could anylise instrumental fx.
It sticks out in my mind that no-one chose Jessica Simpson 'these boots are madefor walkin'
Had the task been to bring in a music video then we might have had a different outcome.
But my general opinionis that anyone who likes music enough to want to know what they're talking about, isnt a fan of R&B.
generally.

umm...you couldn't be more wrong, how can you discuss music or understand anything with out knowing the history behind the music, the fact is that people may not have been exposed or indeed not be fans of r&b or early country/rockabilly music music, but if they like rock and roll they have these genres to thank for it's existence

your statement is akin to saying, anyone who like politics enough to want to know what they're talking about isn't a fan of history generally
