Morn'n all - here we are at the first day in a row for the New Year.
Happy New Year everybody and I wish all a good year ahead.
Good afternoon!
Lamb's nearly in the oven <well, it's in, but not with all its bits and bobs> - as soon as it is, the whole pack is heading down to the lake for the traditional New Year's Day walk.
Happy earthturn to all!
Happy New Year everyone.
Fingers crossed for you and your home and hearth, Stradee. Too, too much of a good thing. Sounds like a good topic for a thread? Or a song.
Heard about power outages, as well as flooding and slides. Bad happenings.
Happy New Year Wildclickers

We are almost there. Crossing my fingers for Stradee and Aa. What of Patti, Dan?
Anyone see that piece on NBC's Nightly News last night about grizzlies in Yellowstone Park and their place on the Endanger Species List, and whether they should be taken off the list?
Will go click now.
sumac, didn't see that one but have seen news regarding the Griz on other channels. I hope they stay on the list. We human animals just should stay clear of the Griz'z habitat. We are the most pesky animals on earth. grin
Patti is still in the hospital - she is having a procedure done tomorrow to determine if her gall bladder is functioning properly. She should be coming home after that. Thanks for asking. It's been really really lonesome on the road where I live - my neighbor across the road (who is 94) is gone to visit her son and my Mom (who is 91) went to visit my sister. I'm the only one alive down this road (it's a No Outlet road). Well, there are the puppies of course.
I think I'm here (checking pulse and blood pressure) Yep, no excuse to not go click now
Happy New Year WildClickers!!!!

Danon,
Patti has my sympathy with the gall bladder. Been there and done that. In short order I had a 'rock' AND the gall bladder removed. That solved that problem. What was surprising to me was the fact that I went to the hospital at 6 am and was home minus the gall bladder by 10:30 am. Doctor gave me a half dozen of the 'Rush Limbaugh' pills, took one and I slept the whole day away! Best of luck to her.
I've been clicking on your Rain Forest Link except for one day I accidentally clicked on Wetlands.
Stradee said I did not have to confess as she would not tattle on me! Speaking of that lady, I haven't heard from her today...not all that unusual but we usually exchange emails just about every day. I know she was worried about the fence at the back of her property collapsing.
I'll try to give her a call later this evening and check on her.
In the meantime... a belated Happy New Year to everyone.
Thanks for the info magginkat - and be sure to let us know re Stradee...... There's lots of water out West these days.
Maggincat - don't worry about which one of the three you click on at the overall rainforest site. All three of them count toward the team total.
I've been clicking for the wetlands portion for quite some time now. I believe Diane and others have been clicking for the prairie. Gotta go for what really turns your crank.

Here's hoping everyone is warm/cool/dry/comfortable !!! and that Patti feels better in the days to come.
Hi all ~ thankyou for your concern.
I'm still here, thank God - have a nasty cold is all - home from work last night and went straight to bed.
Maggie, the wall is still holding - appears the garage safe from a mud/rock slide for now. Keeping fingers and eyes crossed for when the next storm hits. Been a mess driving the freeway! This evening though the rain stopped, and very little wind - the drive home less hectic.
Taking cold meds, and plan going nynite after clicking. Will chat with ya during my next three days off of work.
Dan, please tell Pattie we wish her quick recovery.
sumac, i didn't see the special on the grizz, but we're attempting to stop Pompo <R-Ca> from gutting the Endangered Species Act. Once we accomplish that - the grizzley bear and numerours other endangered animals will continue receiving federal protection.
Ah there you are Stradee.
I was preparing to stay up late so I could call you. Glad you are ok and that your wall is still holding. Go sleep off that cold.
Hope you get to feeling better soon. I'm going to stop in the politics and see who I irritated with my last post then I'm off to bed too.
Stradee, You had us worried for a moment. What's this "wall" stuff?? Are you in danger of a mudslide?? If so, we are again worried for you because there is - as I'm sure you know - another huge storm moving onshore in your area.
Patti thanks you all for your concern and kind words. It looks now as if she will be coming home today....
All clicked for Aa, ehB, MA and myself.......
As a subject changer - here is a short story from my younger days.
I had as a Junior in High School joined the US Marine Reserve unit located in Texarkana, TX. I don't know exactly why - probably because one of my friends who was older than I had joined. Anyway it was all very interesting and during one meeting a sergeant asked me if I would be interested in representing the unit at the upcoming Golden Gloves boxing tournament. I couldn't say no. After not training at all - I showed up at the tournament and was weighed in as a Light Heavy weight. The Heavy Weight contender did not have an opponent so the boxing representatives came up to me and asked if I would do an exhibition match with the man - I couldn't say no. I had won my Light Heavy weight match. Then I climbed into the ring with this guy who had ""ASSURED"" me that this would be an easy fight and he would take it ""EASY"". Well, the bell rang and I felt like a punching bag!!! I then began to punch back and got what I thought were some good licks in. That first round was ok. The second round my legs started to say they were tired, but I told them to keep quiet. The third and last round (only three rounds in Golden Gloves) it was all I could do to keep my head covered. Then the bell sounded. I left the ring and as I headed for the showers the manager of the Heavy Weight guy glued himself to my leg it seemed because he was begging me to fight with his team. I mumbled a lot about I wasn't interested and did he have an aspirin - or something like that. He was persistent but I was convinced that being a boxer was not my lifes ambition. Later, during the trophy presentations I threw up into a towel as I entered the ring to get mine. And, then sort of through a haze I heard the announcer say that the Heavy Weight guy won his with a 60 - 59 decision over me. I should have tried to get into some kind of physical condition before I went into the match - but, that's the way it goes.
Dan, the walls located just behind the garage - there are three levels to the property - all shored with stone walls - except for the one wall thats moved three inches since last winters storms. Not a good idea using lumber for a 5 foot retaining wall - for a north structure - but thats what the original builder decided on instead of stone. My s.i.l whos a contractor installed new drainage pipes near the structure thats been a saving devise from all the rain and keeping the wall pretty much stable. He and his crew can't do much right now with all the rain, but soon as the storms pass, he'll rebuild the wall with stone.
Good story Dan!
Glad Patties on the road to recovery! Our best to her too!
Good to hear from everyone. Stradee, magginkat, Anon. Anon - how about more than just hi and bye?
Retaining walls are tricky businesses. Weep holes for drainage, curtain drains to pull the water away from the walls before it can exert too much pressure - all expensive to do after the fact. But all useful measures.
We should be closing in on 50 now!
