dial in (the fit)?

Increase the length of the plastic (steel safe) to dial in the fit between the switch on the pcb and the button.

This can probably be"dialed in"to a gap of around 0.5mm.

I can't make out what this two sentences mean, could you please help me?

"dial in" usually means to improve the accuracy, or to get closer to the optimum.
