Howdy, sunnialison, and welcome to A2K.

A remailer would be a service through which mail was relayed. Typically, its an internet term; a user sends an email message to a central server, which then forwards the email, either to a preset list of contacts or according to addressing instructions contained within the original email. Frequently, remailers are used to provide a sender with anonymity, stripping any information which would identify the actual sender from all mail forwarded.

Regular postal mail remailers exist as well, providing essentially similar service, but for ink-and-paper mail.

Hope thats the info you wanted. Just jump right in if there's anything else you want to talk about - somebody will be along sooner or later. If you'd like, stop in over at Welcome to New Members , say "Hi", and tell us a little bit about yourself.

Welcome from me too!

The word remailer is created by adding the prefix "re-" to the word "mailer". "Re-" as a prefix means to do something again, so a remailer mails (letters or email) from the original sender to another recipient, a redecorator changes the decor of a room, to have something repainted is to paint over old paint.

Most dictionaries will tell you the meanings and usage of the most common prefixes; in this case, you'd look up "re-".

The explanation of the prefix will be there, and rather than defining all the words that could be made with it, some dictionaries give lists at the bottom of the page of words that can go with "re-"; you're expected to put them together yourself.

Dan Brown -- is that the DaVinci Code author? Good book, I thought!
