I guess #3 fbaezer and #4 for Jespah
fbaezer.
How horrible for your grandfather! I'd assumed he'd been in a war!
Relatives:
1. I'm related to a Pulitzer Prize winner.
2. My middle name comes from a great-great-uncle who fought in the Civil War.
3. After my mom married out of the faith, her father never spoke to her again.
4. My cousin was the spokesperson for the IRS when they were going after Willie Nelson and his tax debt.
jespah--
#2? Your current list is hard!
---------------------------------
1) I once wrestled a 250 lb man to the ground and pinned him down.
2) My seven year old saved a child from drowning.
3) I am a certified Red Cross instructor.
4) I am an ancestor of William the Conqueror.
My list is lame. I've already run out of eyebrow raising truths.
Sofia - #4! (You might want to rephrase that one.)
Sadly, Sofia, #3 is true.
Macsm--
A bone of contention.
I thought ancestor actually meant one who came after; ipsofacto William would be my predecedant or predecessor, and I would be the ancestor.
I know we have a bunch of grammar types who should be able to clear this up. Unless you are one of those grammar types....
I shall get me trusty dictionary.
Sofia is right; it's #2. My ancestors:
1. A cousin left San Francisco the day before the big earthquake in the early 1900s.
2. My paternal grandmother travelled here in steerage, in a boat called the Rindam. The only thing that's a lie is the part about steerage. Grandma travelled second class.
3. A cousin (we're Jewish) married a man named Sam Hitler.
4. My mother's uncle was a small-time loan shark for the Jewish mafia (Murder, Incorporated).
From Merriam Webster online:
one from whom a person is descended and who is usually more remote in the line of descent than a grandparent
Oh, almost forgot.
The family geneology book dating back to around 1000 AD, shows lineage to an Anna Sanders, who married into the Tilghman family (my peeps) circa 1600 AD, who is a direct descendant of William the Conqueror.
She is in my line, ipsofacto....
Jespah, my #4 is also true. My cousin quit her job with the IRS shortly after that.
Which leaves my lie - I am not related to a Pulitzer Prize winner, as far as I know...
#1 is true.
I worked in an Asylum, and the stories I could tell you! I rassled probably once a day. When I look back now, it's hard to believe I did some of the things I did.
(No offense at term Asylum. That was our 'pet' name for the State Mental Hospital. I love mentally ill people! So much that I joined their club. Only became physical to protect them, another client, or staff...)
macsm-- Ugh! Thank you. I've been misspeaking ancestor and predecessor for years.
My ancestors:
Relative of Bruno Hauptmann (kidnapper of Charles Lindbergh Baby).
Granddad killed by a tractor rolling over on him
My great-aunt went from Lincoln NE, to LosAngeles in a covered wagon.
My cousin was a CIA(NSA) agent.
