Can you think of any revolutionaries?
First of all if someone can give me an understandable defination of a revolutionary it would be appreciated as the dictioary explanation didnt make much sense to me.
Can you think of any and what they did?
A revolutionary is someone who thinks outside the box to create change.
Example: Mahatma Ghandi (sp?)- he tried peace when violence was thought to be the only solution.
He tried peace, did he succeed(my history knowledge is rubbish)
'Think outside the box' I LOVE that phrase.
Oh yeah Gandhi succeeded real well...for a while. The problem here is that most people who really want to change the world become targets for abuse and of assassins. There is a wealth of information about Gandhi on the internet including, but not limited (obviously) to this site:
Gandhi Website
Gandhi is worth reading about MG. He might not have succeeded if he was up against Nazis, but he really knew how to get the British to pay attention to him.
Well, to have roused 20 million souls to mutiny.....
What do you call it?
Yes, Gandhi ji was very successful.
Mother Teresa is another one for that category, but a different one.
Umm....
Abraham Lincoln, he abolished slavery,know.
Margaret Sanger--it will take many more generations for her contribution to be recognized, and she was vilified in her own lifetime. Her effect of the industrialized world was and continues to be profound.
sort of parallel with edgars post, rosa parks
I would direct you to this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutionary
as it gives a nice defination and rightly points out that revoltionary can be applied to many differnet fields not just political, civil rights, or religious areas.
Discussing elsewhere--but a biggie in revolutionary behavior--Martin Luther.
Alexander Hamilton.
