Piffka, Ofcoarse most of us with access to magazines, newspapers, and movies hve seen the Taj Mahal. Some people do not go beyond gazing at the picture. That was my point. Sometimes, you have to get involved in the 'real' world to understand what life is all about. Gazing at pictures will get you so far, but actually doing is the key to living. c.i.

A canoli?! We're trying to have a nice pessimistic conversation and the whole congregation begins rambling about a canoli!? I ramble! If you ramble it twists who I am and how I play a part in this whole message board ideal. Don't TWIST me with your God forsaken canolis! The styrofoam just had to but in, didn't YOU?

I always hate to be the "go to guy" when it comes to these topics but, since Ive recanted my canolli position, do you have anything better to fill this void ?.

Well, yes. Frankly I would have suggested a large enchilada.

ah hah! See that is what you are for my rubber clown of death. You state something (conservative if you can) about the original topic, and then I reply in anger, though noone knows im upset for I put it all in the art of sarcasm... something that doesn't translate well in writing. We do that for a while I get excited then someone mentions a canoli and the cycle repeats!

Thats Life.Lifes too important to take seriously, just keep repeating that mantra until it no longer even sounds like anything, then you will have wisdom my ( add proper gender reference here)

O.K. guys let's get serious. The question of the meaning of life is a central existential issue for all of us. I have struggled with it for decades and I've finally concluded that it is not something silly like canolli or enchilada. It's a great big bean and cheese burrito. That's my last comment on the topic.

JLN, You missed it again! It's what comes out of your arse after you eat beans and enchilada is the true meaning of life. c.i.

Have you ever thought briefly to explain something not unlike the view on the meaning of life, and you realized that after you put your statement for your point , you would have to write pages and pages just to get everyone to understand your original statement... I don't know, it just seems like if I tried to put my full explanation of such an answer break a void in this so called reality.
---------------------------
Main Meaning theories
---------------------------
-To be happy- Really hate this one, and yet envy it.
-God has a grand plan- Atheist (but oh how I hate how many of those there are now, it takes the self destructive attitude away from it.)
-Eye of the Beholder- Just vague enough to work.
-There is none, sad, depressed, etc- That would be mine.
-The canoli- That hurts my brain.
-To make a dent in others lives- I thought that once but they die also, just like everything, so why would it matter as their skin is rotting off if we made a "dent" in their lives?
-Various other Food metaphors- Rip offs of the canoli.
-To arrive at an Eureaka factor- What saves every nihilist from committing suicide (besides, that's become passe')

Always Look On The Bright Side of Life
by Eric Idle, from Monty Python's Life of Brian

(Lyrics and free MP3, 2.85MB, at http://thebards.net/music/lyrics/Bright_Side_Of_Life.shtml )

Cheer up, Brian. You know what they say.

Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad.
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble, give a whistle!
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And... [the music fades into the song]
...always look on the bright side of life! [whistle]
Always look on the bright side of life... [whistle]

If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten!
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing,

When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps,
Just purse your lips and whistle -- that's the thing!

And... always look on the bright side of life... [whistle]
Come on! [ others start to join in ]
Always look on the bright side of life... [whistle]

For life is quite absurd,
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow!
Forget about your sin -- give the audience a grin,
Enjoy it -- it's the last chance anyhow!

So always look on the bright side of death!
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
Life's a piece of sh*t,
When you look at it.

Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true,
You'll see it's all a show,
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you!

And always look on the bright side of life... [whistle]
Always look on the bright side of life [whistle]

Come on guys, cheer up.

Always look on the bright side of life.

Worse things happen at sea, you know.

Always look on the bright side of life.

I mean - what have you got to lose?
You know, you come from nothing, you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!

(fade...)

actually, the meaning of life is, to me;
having left a mark......

"kilroy was here"Rolling Eyes

But, perhaps, a mark which will allow your interaction with the future, your contribution to humanity, a piece of art, poem, music, object, idea; which strikes a chord, independent of time and place, your interaction with infinity.

I have an abhorent fear of leaving any mark . . .

I don't like to have my photograph taken . . .

I will never willingly write anything for publication . . .

I want to be known only to my acquaintance, and never recognizable to strangers . . .

I never want to appear on television . . .

I stopped calling the call-in show at the local NPR station when people began to recognize me . . .

I want to enjoy my life, but it's my life, and no part of public events . . .

BoGoWo, Not many of us worry about "leaving a mark," if that implies we've created something popular (and became wealthy), became a politician, a musical artist and/or actor. My goals are to see the world, make as many friends around the globe as possible, learn how people live in other countries, taste their drinks and foods, walk their streets, mingle, and try to be a generous human. After my life ends, it ends, and I have asked my body to be cremated and thrown into the Pacific Ocean. That would be plenty for me. c.i.

To me, the meaning of life is to live long enough to see everyone in Styx, Journey and Air Supply meet with gruesome untimely deaths.

So if even one of them manages a peaceful, neat, and timely death, your goal is to live forever?
