dag, What I meant was, I prefer walking to rides to see the sites. That doesn't mean I do not enjoy vehicles or boats. Wink

Me too, CI. I am considering concocting my own tour - depends on what I find. I don't much like to be herded, and like realJohn, might want to just hang and stare at a place for more time than any official tour would abide. On the other hand, I have architectural historian friends who lead tours who might make me very antsy with too much info told at too much length..

Hmm, I'm going to try to pick up Chicago Access. That Access guide series started by Ricky Saul Wurman has a pretty heavy architectural emphasis, and one can walk down key streets with their guidebooks and get a lot of information about the buildings. Thinking about an early morning walk..

On the other hand (the third one?) a good guided tour would be simpler.

I'd love to go on an architecture tour, but not if it involves TOO much walking. (Bad back.)

As an oil & gas royalty owner, I'm looking forward to using up as much oil as I can on my blatantly self-indulgent trip to Chicago. And I'd like to encourage everyone else to do the same...it's just more money in my* pocket! Lessee...would flying or driving use more oil? Hmmm...damn shame the price has dropped, really...

*And Bush's. Remember, he only asked us to cut our dependence on foreign oil.

yes, that's why we travel. to support and spread the addiction to oil. we're just evil that way.

i wish you the best of luck in stopping the wheel of globalization and convincing people to sit at home. you'll need it.

Reading through posts that don't pertain to a thread to see if anything new has developed. Well maybe not agony but certainly annoyance.

Is that supposed to be "fun"?Goodness gracious me.

What does agony look like?
Quote:

So travelling is bad, Spendius. Meeting with friends is bad. And walking down a street in Chicago to look at the architecture is bad. What, please tell, in your mind is good? Watching soap operas on TV all day? Becoming a total boor on the internet?

Exactly. How much additional energy needs to be produced so we can all stay online long enough to get through the off topic nonsense?

what is good? not traveling. period.
i'm sure if you all ventured to chicago on foot, spendius would have nothing against it. it's the addiction on oil that gets him.

of course addiction on soccer, beer, tv, internet...and perhaps some other commercial pursuits are all well and fine. the fact that many of them are, too, dependent on oil, shall be mercifully disregarded, for they, as we all know, serve higher purpose. they please spendius.

Don't worry about it, Bill. They're pumping enough of my oil to cover all of us going to Chicago and back again. I got it covered.
