Johnboy will be arriving at O'Hare on Friday, May 5, at 9 am on Delta and will be leaving just after 1 pm on Monday, the 8th. If that approximates anyone else's time, let me know and we can ride the train into town (45 minutes) together.
My younger brother booked the flight for me. He travels a lot and is always eager for the frequent flier miles. His education was in architecture and he describes Chicago as having the best in the country. I hope I can find a tour that focuses on that.
rjb, YOu really don't need a organized tour to see the important buildings of Chicago. There might even be a web site that identifies all the important ones with their significance with a map where they are located. All you would need is a transit pass.
realjohnboy - osso and I have planned to make a tour - I, on boat, osso it seems by trolley.

Duke of Perth at 6:30 on Friday, May 5th! Did I miss anyone?
You're going to a Scottish pub and I won't be there?
rjb, there are walking tours and riverboat/lakefront tours that focus on the architecture. The water tour is fabulous but you don't get to go into any of the buildings.
Thank you, ci. I found the Chicago Architecture Foundation (www.architecture.org). They, a non-profit, offer and provide links to various tours. Numerous tours. The one that intrigued me, and might appeal to other A2Kers, is a tour via the El(evated rail) on Saturday, May 6th starting at various times from 11 am until 1 pm. It is free and lasts less than an hour. Too brief to do the subject justice by my standards (I could stare at the Carson-Pirie building for that amount of time). But it could be something yall are interested in doing and it will give me a bit of knowledge of how to get to buildings I want to look at more closely.
Bring a map of Chicago that you print out from the internet - primarily of the Loop and its surroundings.
I can personally recommend
this guide to Chicago architecture. Very informative and user-friendly.

That's up to you, my friend, not me...
Come on, McT, come and enjoy the good company and fun.
Looks like you guys may have some unexpected company. 1.5M of company.

And all that will happen May 4 till May 8?
And can we expect that you post something against foreigners etc soon as well?
Next Daley will ban BMW's and Mercedes as gang bangers vehicles of choice.
Hey, cjhsa, that news release re Daley you posted is a hoot! Usually releases, even ones written to make a point, have the appearance of considered judgement. But not that screed...
Muchas gracias (means "thanks a lot" in English) for giving me a good chuckle...
Daley only wants to ban assault weapons. i presume there aren't 1.5 million people in Illinois who own assault weapons.
On architecture tours, I'm interested in looking at some links on tours. The trolley one sounded amusing when I first read about it, and the boat one sounds like fun. I'd like to look at the sites Joe and realJohn mentioned to see about other possibilities. Who knows, I might like to go on all of them.
Won't have a chance to review the tour info for a few days.
sounds like a snippet from a personal ad.... i enjoy walking in the woods, reading good books...
