I've already renewed my passport for a smooth formality check.
But I am not very sure whether I could come for now. Sad

I hope you come satts_fs. I'm planning a trip to Chinatown this weekend and was thinking of you as I made our plans. I'd be glad to tour it with you in May.

I am planning to come, but haven't made reservations yet.

One question. Will there be some sort of "check in" time or place for everyone? I would hate to get there on Friday and not find anyone until Sunday. Communicating through A2K once we get there won't work because I won't have a laptop.

I suppose, like you and me some others might have this "problem", Eva - and some arrive already on Thursday.

That one of the reasons why this thread is running (I think), e.g. to make arrangements, plans, etc - via PM, email, phone, here, ... ...

It looks like I'll be in town that week Very Happy . I'm happy to provide entrance to the Art Institute for those interested. I'm allowed three guests at a time on my membership. Friday evening is reserved for celebrating my anniversary with Mr B, but I'm otherwise available to help play tour guide.

J_B, Count me in as one of your guests. I'll be in Chicago from the 4th (early noon) thru the 8th, leaving on the 9th.

J_B, I would love to join you! The Art Institute is an absolute must-see for me. (If someone else needs the free admission, I can pay my own way. I just want to go with a group of you.) Saturday, perhaps?

Okay, Walter, I'll use this thread until the time comes to leave home. Maybe I can gather enough phone numbers by PM to figure out where people are before Sunday.

I just reserved a room at the DAYS INN LINCOLN PARK - NORTH AT 644 W. DIVERSEY PKWY
This 1918 (Est.) property was voted Days Inn's best hotel for 2004 and made Hospitality magazine's 400 Top Performers list as well, whatever that means. It appears to be located between Sublime's and the Magnificent Mile; about 2 miles South of Sublime's place and 4 miles North of the Magnificent Mile. It claims to be in a safe neighborhood, within walking distance of much.

At $136 a night (average for my stay) it seems to be a tremendous value compared to the properties right on or just off the Magnificent Mile I looked into.

Do any of you Chi-towners know anything good or bad about it? Has anyone started the contact list... or list of properties other A2Kers are staying at yet? I have PM'd my contact info to Sublime per his request on the other thread. Everyone else should feel free to PM me for an exchange. This Hotel has WIFI throughout, and I'll be bringing my laptop so if anyone wants to use me for a contact point, or message station, feel free as well.

That's a nice idea re: your laptop, Bill.

(I still don't know whether I'll be there, probably won't until say 3 weeks beforehand.)

I don't know anything about that hotel, but it's in a great neighborhood. One of my favorite pubs, the Duke of Perth, is about two blocks north of there on Clark St. Very good location too: on three bus lines and about five blocks from an el station, and easy to catch a cab there too.

Maybe the two of you (joe and bill) can get together and coordinate a contact point for the visiting A2Kers???

If he gets into Chicago on Friday, then we can meet at Duke of Perth for the all-you-can-eat fish-and-chips. And then he can buy me the beer he promised me. Drunk Hell, we can all meet there and then go to B.L.U.E.S. or Kingston Mines afterwards.

joe,

I would gladly meet you guys there on that Friday. I work downtown. I would need to get my wife's permission (that is not always easy).

Since I'm in Windy City from Thursday onwards, I'll sure be there ...

It seems to me that Occom Bill doesn't have to make much of an effort to get to this gathering.

Isn't his restaurant on the eastern edge of Wisconsin, thereby making the drive a very brief one?

I say we make Bill drive to Kansas City first, then to Chicago.

Just seems fair to me.
