I will, Dag. I was thinking the same thing myself re: staying somewhere that others are staying.

So far...

Walter's staying at the Essex Inn.
Osso's staying at the Travelodge Downtown (or was it the Carleton Motor Hotel?)
C.I.'s staying at the Millenium Knickerbocker Hotel.

Is this right?

Someone should compile a list of recommended hotels & rates by location. And some notes about desirable locations would be very helpful for those of us who are not familiar with Chicago.

I just want something cheap, gorgeous, and smack in the middle of the town.... should be simple enough, right?

Eva's list for me is correct. I usually don't spend much on accommodations when I travel (3 or less stars), but feel this trip will be a special, last visit to the windy city that was once "home."

Well I finally got info on the party room. The max capacity for the room is 30, if I get the movie theatre it is bumped up to 45. Food is ok and the hours are 9am to Midnight on Sat. and 12pm to Midnight Sun. to Fri. The only major rule is that there is no smoking allowed.

The general location is Irving Park and Lake Shore Drive.

That's probably not the best idea, ci. It would put Sublime's address on the internet. It's probably better to wait until the event gets closer and personal contact info is shared (just my opinion).

I'm staying at the Travelodge downtown. Hah, would prefer the Palmer House.

Dag, I think you and I are looking for the same place. Except I would add free shuttle service to & from O'Hare. And fresh flowers in the room. And a chocolate on my pillow every evening would be a nice touch.

Not too much to ask, do you think? Wink

Eva & Dag's hotel sounds just right for me, too! If we get a few more takers, maybe we can get a group discount somewhere.

I've booked the Essex Inn already early November.

Going budget, anyone? The Cass Hotel in Near North sounds fine to me. Am looking at cutprice fares now.

I've heard both good and bad things about the Cass. It's definitely not upscale, but if you don't mind the lack of some amenities I suppose it would be ok.

Mac...yes, we are on the same page. That is what I was hoping for. Besides, I just think it would be more fun if a bunch of us stay at the same place. Tell you what. I will forego the fresh flowers and bring chocolates for everyone's pillows myself if it helps.

Walter, osso, c.i....can you guys post links to the hotels you've reserved? The Essex, the Travelodge Downtown, and the Millennium Knickerbocker?

It's a rather expensive 4-star hotel, but located near Michigan Ave and the Water Tower.
