Spectacular photos everyone! Thank you for capturing our lovely weekend in photos.
The tour dude was a bit distracted with his story of how the entire lake front became public lands when we were passing Lake Point Tower. At one time it was a highlight of the show, now it's just another building in his speil.
I had a friend, many years ago, who had a small studio apartment there. It was pretty high up and the view was slightly unnerving, like being in the middle of the lake. Facing the city tho' must be fantastic. At least, it was. I'm almost positive that several buildings have gone up in the last twenty or so years, blocking that view.
Lake Point Tower, thanks, J_B.
Here's an image link from google -
At least that tour dude didn't lose me physically...
I nearly got left behind in the Mies van der Rohe IIT architecture building, trying to photograph the architecture students' playful efforts at their assignments; just caught sight of the rest of the tour about a block away after I managed to clamber out through all the projects and find the door...
I'd been so mesmerized I didn't notice everybody else had left.
osso, You really didn't have to worry; we stood out there for quite awhile before Marshall directed us to cross the street to the student union.
ISN'T GOOGLE EARTH THE COOLEST THING!!!
But, CI, that's like one of those nightmares when you can't find your classroom and you happen to be naked, or, you do find your classroom but the subject is strange and they are passing out the final exams...
Kidding. I wasn't sent into panic mode.. just relieved to see the group. I am famous to myself for not wanting to take tours, so I'm sort of bad at them.
I remember going through Filoli, a historic heritage house with garden on the SF peninsula where a friend is a volunteer. I failed to follow the cluster fast enough and kept being reprimanded. <pfui>
I dunno, that was just from Google images. I haven't checked out google earth. Uh oh...
Back when I was using my first IMac (a few months ago), I couldn't get the more advanced google programs, or whatever you call them, because my system was too old.
last, and maybe least, here's a few sights i managed to record:
a famous fountain (the name of which i unfortunately do not know)
a mysterious jet of water
The first was Buckingham Fountain, fairly near my hotel. Somehow I forgot to go over and look at it. Cool the way you got the fountain spray at building height....
Odd that mystery spray... symbol of righteous readiness against a Chicago Fire?
HAH!!! Fantastic picture of Walter..
yitwail, That's the Buckingham Fountain.
Taking a picture of Walter taking a picture is very common; he has a camera in front of his face about 60-percent of the time.
I remember passing by that water spout on our way back to the pier after our arch tour cruise. There was a sign that said it sprayed it xxx-feet across the river.
I remember walking to the end of the Navy Pier when it was still the university. My friend was attending while I worked and played. That was almost five lifetimes ago.
