about 6 months or so ago i suddenly lost about 20 pounds. i've been in a very active job (landscaping) for about a year, and maybe i just wasn't getting enough calories...my high energy lasted through the rest of the summer but recently i've been very lethargic, fatigued, somewhat depressed...i'm 5'6 and now only weight about 110 pounds. i need to get my weight back, but i have no appetite, and am nauseated by food easily. my doctor also says i have low blood sugar. towards the end of the summer i suffered heat exhaustion and dehydration, which began the downward spiral of my energy. i'm only 19 and don't want to feel like this! any ideas?

First, has your doctor taken a complete blood chemistry, and conducted a complete physical examination to rule out any illness? If he has, and your only problem is low blood sugar, yes dear, you need to eat and DRINK more.

Landscaping is a very strenuous job, especially in the summer, when you are out in the heat. Do you take a lot of water with you, and constantly sip? Better still, how about a drink that provides certain chemical benefits, such as Gatorade? Dehydration can really throw your chemistry out of whack, and cause all sorts of mischief with your body.

If food does not interest you, try one of those dietary supplements such as Ensure. At least you will get some calories into you.

I am not too comfortable with the idea that you suddenly lost twenty pounds. I think that if your doctor cannot give you a decent explanation about why that happened, you need to see another physician.

When I had a stroke almost 2 years ago I lost over 20 lbs while in the hospital. I have not gained any of it back. The doc (my third) told me the meds I am taking to prevent another stoke have the side-effect of nausea following anything I eat. It's a bummer.

those are some good tips, thank you. i have since quit my job landscaping. from august to september, before i quit, i did have some dehydration problems, but the weight loss was march-april. some very stressful things were going on in my life, but things have calmed down mostly by now. i have been to at least 5 doctors, who tell me i have organic phosphorus poisoning (i don't think that's it), anxiety, low blood sugar, etc. i've even had to make a few trips to the ER for tingling, dizziness, vision problems, confusion, metallic taste...???
i have just started taking the BC pill Estrostep which i hear has a side effect of weight gain but also fatigue. i just hope that low blood sugar is all that it is! could weight gain help this too?
