For many years the wife and I discussed the planes buzzing over the rooftops of cars as they landed at Hooks Airport. We knew the following could happen, but did not truly expect it. - edgarblythe
2 killed in small-plane crash-landing near Hooks
Associated Press
SPRING ?- A small plane attempting to land at a regional airport hit power lines then smashed into a car on a nearby road, killing a man and young boy on the plane and injuring a person in the car, authorities said.
Roland Herwig, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the plane was inbound to David Wayne Hooks Airport just northeast of Houston when it crashed about 8 a.m.
The condition of the person in the car wasn't immediately available, but KTRK-TV in Houston reported that a woman in the car was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.
power lines are the bugaboo of small plane pilots. The planes arent massive enough to tear through the wires. I was taking glider lessons years ago and the tow plane was coming in to an airport near Kutztown Pa and it wrapped aroun the wires and flipped around like a yo yo. Nobody died but the plane was a total.
I quit entertaining the thought of ridge flying that day.
Got to wonder about crop dusters and balloonists. I barely have the courage to fly the big commercial planes.
Sounds like a pretty freaky accident, Edgar.
There's enough scary stuff happening on our roads without having to worry about a plane coming down on you.
I worry even more about flying saucers landing on my head. Those suckers got to be hot and spinning.
Only time I worry about flying saucers is when my wife is mad at me.
