My Sassy Girl.......Yeopgijeogin geunyeo

Let me state that Rom/Coms are not normally my cup of tea,BUT this 127 min. film isn't just what it first appears to be.It's based on the author's series of stories, posted on the internet, describing his adolescent relationship with his girlfriend. For a selection of reviews, look here.My Sassy Girl
It was to my surprise that I thoroughly enjoyed this film from start to finish, including some unexpected action sceens that pop up from time to time.A nice little film.Recommended Very Happy

The next film, when it arrives will be a horror........Shutter.

Jun Ji-Hyun is the actress from "My Sassy Girl". She also starred in a romantic drama, "Si Wall Ae" (love across time). Has anyone seen "Si Wall Ae"? It is a film that was made in 2000.

barry,

It would be interesting to hear about Thai films as well. Besides, many films are co-productions among film producers from more than one country.

I have not seen "My Sassy Girl". Jun Ji-Hyun is also known for the romantic drama I was talking about. The romantic drama was released under different titles (Si Wall Ae, Siworae, or Il Mare). A Hollywood version of the story was filmed here in Chicago recently. It will not be shown in theaters until June 2006. The new version is called "The Lake House" and stars Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves as the lovers.

Thanks for the invite to talk about "Asian" films. It's only over the past 6 months that I have discovered them after a lifetime of Hollywood fodder.
In my quest of seeking out asian films,I have come across The Lake House (Il Mare),which,if I remember correctly,is a Korean film and is on my "to order" list.Be assured that after I've seen an asian film,I will post my thoughts here.

ya surprisingly korean film's gathering a lot of fans all over the place. i think it's interesting that now hollywood is going to asia to look for good movies to remake, like The Ring. Old Boy is supposed to be in remake production, too, no?

I have only see two Korean films (as far as I can remember):
Gyae-got-un nalui ohu (A Hot Roof, 1996), about women rising up against oppression, combines humour and drama.
Seom (The Isle, 2000), a very Asian film, with beautiful scenery, little spoken text and disturbing self-destructive scenes.

A few people have already mentioned it, but Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo (released in the US as Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War) is an amazing film. In fact, it's my favorite movie. Here's the review I wrote and posted on IMDb, for anyone who's interested in checking it out.

I've heard some good things about My Sassy Girl and a friend of mine loves it, but I have yet to watch it. But to be sure, it has a good reputation.

The Isle is indeed pretty disturbing at some points... i had to cover my eyes. a lot of people say Tae Guk Gi is like the korean Saving Private Ryan, but it's different and really good. good casting and acting too. i totally recommend My Sassy Girl - especially since valentine day's coming up, it would be like a perfect girls' night in type of a flick haha. RE: Old Boy, is nicholas cage thing for sure?? crazy. i just hope Justin Lin doesn't screw up the remake...

Hi guys, just a quick word about SHUTTER,a Thai film made in 2004.
A young photagrapher and his girlfriend discover mysterious shadows in their photographes after a tragic accident. They soon learn that you can't escape your past.
This is a MUST SEE for all Horror/Thriller fans wanting a really good scare.Shades of Ringu,Ju-On and The Tale Of Two Sisters. You will love the "Carrie" ending. My disc, from Korea had the added bonus of a DTS-ES soundtrack-very nice.
As usuall, click here for other, much better reviews
SHUTTER
Highly recommended Very Happy
