Tobagonning...nice. Pretty much what it comes down to.

They put different sizes on for snow tires, because it doesn't make sense for a snow tire to be a 255 width, for example. They'll be a smaller wheel/tire size than what's on this car now. The wider the tire, the worse it is in the snow.

i still think the old vw-beetle - the original ! not the phony retread - with 15 inch tires was a real fun car to drive in the snow. at one time we had gone out on an unpaved country road towards a lake > downhill ! getting back up was a little tricky, so i drove up backwards with ehbeth looking out the backwindow shouting directions ! i don't think my olds would co-operate under such conditions.
we had two beetles from 1959 to 1977, followed by a rabbit diesel, a jetta and a passat. passat was a great driver until the automatic quit and no transmission shop wanted to touch it - that's how we wound up with the olds (i guess we bought an "instant" antique ). hbg

I like the looks of that "Nomad wannabe" station wagon the "Magnum" (?). They put a 350 hemispherical head twin turbo in that .

I was reading back and noticed this...the Magnum doesn't have a twin turbo. It's a Hemi V8. Chrysler doesn't even make any twin turbos that I'm aware of. A twin turbo on that Hemi would be quite impressive though.

Actually they're coming out with an SRT-8 version which is supercharged, but no twin turbo.

I remember my friend's dad had an old beetle. Very rudimentary car...but something about them are kind of cool.

Hell yes fuel injected! Are there any carbuerated cars still made? It's a V8 with 340 horsepower...they made the "Hemi" design more for the throwback factor rather than performance. Twin turbo doesn't mesh well with V8 or "Hemi."

And it's still a quick vehicle.

I just purchased a 2004 Crossfire with 11 actual miles. After years of driving "grocery-getters" this is a dream car!! I would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for something sporty - and it does have the Mercedes drive train. I am anxious to see how it performs in the winter.

You have had snow already in B-Town?

Oh god, sucks for you.

As a Bostonian you should know that car is gonna get stuck at intersections in the winter. Nothing like that freshly plowed pile in the middle of the road to get trapped in.

Oh Slappy, what have you gone and done?

Buttonbelly, what tires are on it? The car either has Michelin Pilots, which are better handling tires, but worse in snow. Or it came with Continental all-seasons. Luckily I have the all-seasons.

Either way, I think I'm going to eventually crash this car. It handles so well...I've yet been able to get the tires to squeal coming on or off the highway around the ramp. I have a feeling once I break traction, I'm done. It's sick....Road and Track did a comparison of this car vs. the 350Z and Audi TT turbo, it outperformed both in the skidpad and braking distances.

I've driven worse cars in the snow. If it snows that bad, I can just make my sales presentations online via phone/internet.

Bella, we had one day of brief snow. No big deal...yet.

slappy : the "toronto star" newspaper today had its annual review of wintertires. they listed two brands as having 19 inch wintertires.
- continental TS 810S - up to P295/30R19
- pirelli "winter 240 sotto zero" - up to P295/30R19

perhaps you can find them locally or through a tire specialist. hbg

I could....I'm very lazy with this stuff though. I'll have to find out the hard way just how bad this car is in the snow. If it's that terrible, maybe I'll throw snows on it.

I already curb rashed one of the wheels. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

good afternoon, slappy !
i suggest you may want to convert the crossfire into a three-wheeler, picture attached for your amusement - just think of the savings on tires alone - and the fun scooting around corners on two wheels. hbg

One of my old roomates who just moved out to L.A. bought a new base coupe. Sticker around $28, got it for around $22. They're blowing them out.

You sayin' I'm a target?

But I can easily pull away from a slow-ass truck.

Unless it's a Ford Lightning or Ram SRT-10.

Yes, but not here. Please refer to the "Slappy buys a Swedish made penis pump" thread.

Slappy,
I have an 04 Coupe Limited that is almost exactly like yours, only difference is I have grey interior. I drive the hell out of mine. Just rolled over 35k. much like you I bought mine used with 7k on it. I thought that was a good deal too, until my car has spent more time in the shop than it has on the pavement. Just got it back a couple of weeks ago because Chrysler had to replace the entire engine because the oil filters that were originally used actually broke down when you pushed synthetic oil through them. This in turn started pushing the filter fibers through engine along with the oil and at first the lifters beat the crap out of themselves, so they replaced them. Then the cylinder walls were scratched to hell and the engine started losing compression, not to mention the clakking noise that was going on while you were cruising through town, so they replaced the whole engine. It took the technician a week to build a new one from the ground up, but they had to have the car in the shop with the new engine because it is not as simple as dropping the engine into the compartment.

Today, I had to take the car back in because one of my headlights(lowbeam) went out. They replaced the bulb but when you close the hood, the bulb goes out. They told me that it was a simple fix that they could find the short and everything would be ok. They called me at the office this afternoon and told me that they were going to have to replace the wiring harness.

Chrysler is being no help on any of these issues. The service department waited until Customer Service was closed for the day and they expect me to pick up the car in the morning and drive it on one headlight until the new wiring harness comes in, in somewhere between the next 7 days to possible the next three weeks. they are not sure when.

Just wanted to give you a heads up on potential problems. It hasnt cost me anything yet, it is all under warranty it is just a huge headache. The Hertz people are really nice to me though. They even know me by name when I come in and I dont have to fill out any paperwork.

Later man,

SaxMan
