Are you honestly unaware of past horrible consequences to just "sharing our observations". The Bell Curve
There will always be some people who are offended by someone's observation even if the observation being shared is intellectual honesty.
Thank you for sharing, it made me go back and research some more. I like what Steven Pinker has to say about the subject.
I appreciate the way he doesn't allow people to tread on him.
You could have fooled me. He gets trodden on left, right and centre, deservedly so usually, and there is nothing he can do about it short of abandoning posting.

@timur,
The burp was a bump...so I could read your remark...not an insult. The page will not turn without an extra post.
You are entitled to your opinions...and I respect that. I disagree on the last one your offered.

I wonder if Saint Frank is going to take a break from making vicious remarks about me to tell us again what a reformed character he is, and how much he values civility. That one always cracks me up. I noticed that he was shouting a few pages back. He really needs to learn to control his anger. He needs to calm down, so he doesn't raise his blood pressure and give himself a heart attack.
I am sorry Frank.
Did you mistake that comment for being addressed to you?
Or was it addressed to RL. RL and I both seem to appreciate each other's input regarding matters ethical.
Your comment seems (to me) an attempt to "stir the pot".
You are welcome to your opinion as always.
Just replying to your ravings and nastiness, Setanta.

@MattDavis,
Not stirring the pot, Matt. Merely responding to lots of provocation on the part of Setanta. Your remarks, by the way, are read by everyone...and anyone can comment when remarks are made that seem inappropriate.
He has proved to be one of the nastiest individuals in this forum
You are entitled to your opinion, which is not gospel truth.
I have a different one: I appreciate the way he doesn't allow people to tread on him.
As do I, I've always found Frank to be very friendly. We don't agree about everything, in particular, I remember a strong difference of opinion over whether a British pharmaceutical company, that had provided lethal chemicals for executions in America, should be prosecuted. It's against EU law to provide such material to any country that carries out capital punishment. We disagreed, and still do, but it never resulted in name calling.

@John Creasy,
Quote:
I've always wondered why people that are so adamant about the non-existence of God, debate morals and what is right and wrong. If there is no God and this world is truly just a cosmic fluke, than your life and everything that happens in it are of no consequence whatsoever. Why not just do whatever you want and not care about others. After all, survival of the fittest is the name of the game right? Love of others is just some accidental emotion that means nothing. So do whatever you want. Your life, your children's life, and your children's children's life will all be over soon and nothing will be remembered.
Death just shows the ultimate absurdity of life. One may think an atheist's life is pointless, but realistically, we are no more valueless than those who profess to believe in gods. Man is born, he lives, and he dies. End of story. If our species happens to do something that is constructive for mankind then this work will live on through succeeding generations.
@Moment-in-Time,
You wrote,

Imposter Quote: Non-sequitur: Who says my life and everything that happens are of no consequence? You? LOL
Where do you draw your conclusions from? Really.
What "consequences" are you really talking about?
I did not write the above. I did not pose those questions to you. See the John Creasy quote below:

Oh RL sorry I forgot to mention yet. Yes I did watch the Pinker video and liked it. Also your previous video the lecture with Rachel Maddow, I watched it and liked it, particularly her endorsement of philosophy as a good background for many creative subjects.
I will give this video a go, provided it does not require me to further neglect my love Jasmin. Maybe later tonight.

@reasoning logic,
Hey RL...I know you have said your memory is not the best...but do you remember when I had posted a link about those contestants who were trying to compete to be known as the first American Ninja? They had to face four segments of this obstacle course called Mt. Madoriyama...
Well the course was so difficult, that out of 100 who made the qualifier...Only one has made it past the second, and is going to try to beat the third stage...
