What about the people who do wrong and go against everything that a normal society consider right? These people do not think they are doing wrong. Where is their concience?

That's a very primitive view of human nature you've got there.

How so? Perhaps you could give an explanation of what you mean.

"Oh Lord, I thank thee that I am not like other men,nor even like this Publican over here."

Why is there such an air of malignant smugness about the religious. I would never go and post a thread title that said so, Im just responding in kind to the really mean spirited and dim title of the thread and most of the posts by the "believers".

Evangelicals, your life is intrusive.

Oh how I agree, Farmerman. People who dedicate their life to something beyond life itself, mortgaging their very existence on a fantasy. I'm an atheist who feels that THIS actual life is profoundly precious. It needs no "point"; its every moment is intrinsically valuable, not to be measured by comparison with an otherworldly mirage. I hope that does not sound too smug.

JLN and farmerman, How else can it be explained to those that can't see beyond their own beliefs?

They see everything through the lens of the bible, and ignore science, logic, and common sense.

Ignore science, logic, and common sense?

Oh I see, Cicerone Imposter. You are now the guage by which to measure me and other Christians?

You can dictate what is logic and common sense to us?

Tread lightly there little one. You have dug yourself into a hole and were buried by your own words earlier today. Are you trying to resurrect yourself here?

We are not stupid. We are not illogical. We have common sense.

However, because we don't think and believe the way you do, you deem to tell us how wrong we are?

I guess you didn't notice that when we were trying to point out some error in your tactics and was trying to get you to explain some things you said, that NO ONE jumped to your defense C.I. They left you out there in that field all by yourself. Not a single ONE of them came in and said, 'hey, leave C.I., alone. I understand what he means." NOT ONE C.I. As a matter of fact, Questioner, who I feel leans more to the non-believers way of thinking, told you that you were slipping.

I feel sorry for you C.I. I really do. I can't imagine being you and feeling I had the right to laugh at others because they believe differently.

I not only find it sad, I find it highly arrogant.

The title of this thread is, indeed offensive. Even to this Christian who does not condemn those who think differently. We can disagree and sometimes we can even disagree strongly.

For me, I was at first reluctant to post anything in this thread because of the title. I realize that civil discourse is difficult when the title is so negative to begin with. This is my last post in this thread.

C.I., in case I haven't told you lately, I like and respect you as a gentle person with a good mind and a great moral outlook. You've lived a successful life on your own terms. We all should be so fortunate.

Having known CI for several years now, there are many very nice things I could say about him, however, coming from me that would raise the condemnation level.

Is there any particular Christian trait you are demonstrating with this post?

Hey! Farmerman, another of my favorite A2K people. Where have you been lately? Haven't heard from you much in a long time. Everything OK?

Farmerman,

Perhaps it would have been better or more truthful if you had said that what you don't take lightly to is when it appears as though someone on your side of the fence is being attacked. Don't blame you.

We don't take it very lightly when our side has been either.

If you will read my posts to C.I., you will see I tried and tried with him.

Mesquite,

Only the truth. I don't understand something. No, wait, I think that is the problem. I do understand it just fine.

We are provoked and provoked and provoked. We answer back with kindness, understanding, and compassion.

Then when we have finally had enough and lash back, 'you' can't wait to jump on us and tell us just how unChristianlike we are.

Yet, none of 'you' (except for a very rare exception) will say a single thing to those on your side of the fence slandering our side. But you let us just say something slightly out of the way and you pounce on us like the hounds of hell.

Momma Angel says: "We are not stupid. We are not illogical. We have common sense." I must assert that ait is a sense that is far TOO COMMON.
By the way, Cicerone is far from arrogant.

The trouble with Christians is that they are so far from being like Jesus of Nazareth.
Momma Angel says: "We are provoked and provoked and provoked. We answer back with kindness, understanding, and compassion."
Is THAT how you see yourselves? Are you sure you do not agree with the sadistic St. Thomas who famously remarked that Christians in Heaven have the added pleasure of looking down and enjoying the suffering of atheists in Hell? Such kindness and compassion.

JLNobody,

I am referring to how we were trying to get C.I., to answer our questions and he kept laughing at us, etc.

I am only human. I am not perfect. So far from it. But, I have feelings. I don't like being attacked anymore than anyone else does.

And I find the fact that anyone thinks they have the right to laugh at anyone for being different or thinking differently arrogant. No one has the right to laugh at others because they are different.

MA, no offense meant but I have been ridiculed on this forum for my hat (Stetson) my beard, my location as well as less important features (I've been refered to as the village idiot). Deal with it.
