Another Death

Another to add to the list
My friend
Another has followed too soon
How much grief d'you want from me, God?
How much from the world?
As we dance to your tuneĀ…?

Some speak of a saviour
Some call you creator
But destruction in your name brings doom
An eye for an eye
Sees millions die
While you laugh in my face
Like a lunatic chased by the moon
When you see that my heart is consumed

Going Home

I'm going home now
I'm going home
Long have I travelled
Long have I roamed
My boots are worn thin
There's a pain in my back
I'm turning around now
I'm gona head back

I'm going home now
I'm going home
I'm tired of walking
this old road alone
Home is a place
were a man lays his head
So I'm going home now
Going home to my bed

Not exactly a poem, maybe -

Dead End

I move with you

out into the bright furnace of hate

I walk in your shadow

through streams of screams

While the sky drones,

boiling rays of light

echo glinting off your helmet

cast from side to side

We brace before we run

together - locked in one direction

like two deer veering

off the path the herd has taken

We leap the gap

in mighty strides

to crash through the fence on the other side

Amazed, to be alive

2 empty streets

before the realization

The deepest chill that fills

the heart

with drowning sensations

A staggering invasion

Ahead the Dead

End

of all of our intentions

Somewhere a dog barks

A shadow blinks the sky

You glance at me

A straight look

that carries no lies

Everybody dies

Nice.

I like when the words paint a painting I can see.

We listened to a lie

And we marched off to war
with the chance to be a hero
Or so we believed
trusting old Nero
We died and we cried
and we starved over there
We saw friends loose
and we killed without a care
Then we all trudged home
after years of war
But no one could tell us
what we'd been fighting for
Or any good reason why
our friends had to die

Not without speaking a lie

Write To You? (F*cked in the Head)

What can I say to you?
I'm unable to speak
There's too much pain stuff
on the skin or buried deep
And none of it is eloquent
I'm not like you
I grew up alone
without a living soul
Maybe there was a youth once
a kid you would have liked
He thinks of you and smiles
thinks of you and sighs
But the rest, the man, is dead
Lightning sliced
and bled
And even if he can make it
he's f*cked in the head

You write so well. It's beautiful and unsettling both.

Watching the Full Moon

The moon is full
Smiling with a winking eye
she beams obscene
twisting into me
she is a dream
of nothing
Circular and opaque
lighting the lunatic
Gazing over hilltops
with a smug shimmer
of guiltless glamour
Draining all my strength
as she bites
on the jugular of my life

without a poem

so many rooms without a window

so many keys without a door

so many dreams without a substance

so many oceans without a shore

so many deserts without a rainbow

so many lost without a home

so many hearts without a lover

so many poets without a poem

Disappearing World

Close all the doors

Pull curtains against the day

Intercept all calls

Send visitors away

Let silence settle in

I know what I am

(Losing touch with the world)

The incredible shrinking man

Scars

Scars are charms
to keep ghouls at bay
Or hideous masks
behind which we pray
Or buried too deep
to ever be seen
Only heard in the dark
distorted scream

Scars identify
who you are
Memories thrive
in every scar
These scars are yours
and yours alone
They're part of you now
etched on bone

Scars are sacred
but feel obscene
They twist
at your body
and run naked
between
normality
and the dream

Glory Path

I know your dreams
had been
blown apart

Though you lived them well
with all
your bravest heart

They took you far away
from the glory path
and sent you down a back road
to hell (for a laugh)

I know so very well
why you had to say
goodbye

you live you learn

you take your turn

you f'uck it up

you die

tr trauma

tr trauma in the brain
echoes of the familiar beat
tr traces of a name
a face unconscious
in the vacant street
tr triggers
memories of pain
tr trying hard
to pick it up
and put it back again
tr trouble is
nothing fits the same

Black eyes smiling

Black eyes smiling
she was a darling
always laughing
Easy to smile
When you are only three
And the world is peace
around you and your family
Then bombs landed near her bed
killed mum and dad
messed her in the head
and took her legs
Black eyes don't smile no more
What did you expect?
This is your war

So Sick

I'm so sick
of you, Death
with your gasping mouth
and sour, lying breath
So sick
of your clawing fingers
and staring eyes
I defy you
and your scheming lies

Death, you can go
to whatever hell
I'm so sick of all the faces
of the dead I loved so well
I listen to your evil whisper
as you seduce some other
You are a sick friend, Death
to steal a dying lover
before final words
could be spoken
leaving worlds shattered
hearts withered and broken

I'm so sick
of watching you
bury yet another
with eyes familiar to me
like the eyes of a brother
A photograph
of two dozen
One looks like me
Not quite smiling
eternally

So sick of you, Death
So sick of your choices
So sick of the billion
screaming voices

So sick of you, Death
So sick of your sorrow
So sick just knowing
You'll be back again tomorrow

The party's Dead

Silver tape wrapped round his eyes
So he would not see your lies
Silver tape wrapped round his feet
So that he could not retreat
Silver tape wrapped round his ears
So he would not hear their tears
Silver tape wrapped round his mouth
So that he could not speak out
Silver tape wrapped round his wrists
Stop him writing with his fist

The soldier sat upon his bed
Christmas tape wrapped round his head
The party was dead

Gold confetti floating down
Venus in her favourite gown
All the gypsies have left town
Lost inside his head

Tonight

This is the dark hour
Alone in a moment
when time hones like a dripping tap
on the mind
and cupboards stand empty

Wandering through still rooms
in search of some real reason
Leftfield on the system
jacked and whacked right up
like I give a f*ck
No one for miles
Only hills
and the star lit sky
The world is very far away
Tonight
