I know this is more an "other language" question but i posted it there as well.
I would like to know if any you brains know that right spelling for the French version of the name William.
I know that in French it is phonetically a bit like
Gii - am, with a hard "g"
it would be great to hear back soon, Boephe
Guilliam - like gill-ee-um.
Father calls me William,
Sister calls me Will
Mother calls me Willie,
But the fellers call me Bill
In French, its Guillaume
The German(ic) Wilhelm [wil "will, desire" and helm "helmet, protection"] becam Guillaume in French, was introduced to Britain by the Normans ["Guillaume II le bâtard, duc de Normandie"], and was 'germanised' there to William.
Thanks heaps
got it off Google (my best friend) anyhoo but it good to know i can get answers here.
