Christmas is over, but you guys are getting your "white" christmas season. Looks like more is on the way. I remember when we lived in Naperville on a side street, and I had to clear the snow from our driveway to the main road. If I had to do tha today, I'll be in the hospital.

Oh man. Just thinking about that long crawl I took every morning and evening from 55th Street to 51st Street, rain, sleet or snow, wears me out. The nights after and hard days work I stood on the el platform at Clark & Lake, waiting and waiting and waiting to see the lights of a train coming...it's 10 degrees in a raging blizzard...man oh man...

I have some severe bus waiting memories, but not like you do, eoe, since we left when I was 13. Nice to be relatively warm...

Those long, long, long waits on el platforms or street corners are the stuff nightmares are made of. brrrrr.....
After 14 years here, I still get a smug thrill when the temp drops up north.

It's certainly very bad news re yesterday's shootings.

But thus I've learnt that The first settlers were German, and the village was originally established in 1853 as "Bremen".

It is sad, Walter.

There is still a manhunt for the shooter. He has not yet been caught.

It's a sad day indeed for the capital of all gun free zones inside of gun free cities inside of gun free states.

Just watch, the Illinoisocrats will again go after guns, too afraid to go after the the thugs that perpetrate these crimes. Instead they will focus on the law abiding gun owners, who quite often won't speak up for themselves, and lose their rights to the freakshow.

Usually after a tragedy like this the Brady bunch is the first to show up and campaign for tighter gun control. Their absence is conspicuous until you realize this is one of their little gun free utopias. Surprise! Some thug with a gun who didn't care about their rules showed up and shot five unarmed people!

One night during a major snowstorm in Chicago I boarded the CTA bus at 31st and State at 6 pm and arrived at 119th and Morgan at 11 PM. That bus was the last one to leave the loop because of the severe storm.

That night the driver let everyone ride free and the bus was totally stuffed with people.

Those were the days... and nothing in the Northeast could possibly compare to winters in the City of Chicago.

I'll always love my Chicago... Laughing

My Dad has told me stories of going to Chicago to watch a game at Soldier Field many years ago, and having to pay a cop to stop traffic so they could cross the street. Ahh, my kind of town...

You have to have a high tolerance for people, here in the city, cjhsa. You don't strike me as a people person. Or an animal person--let's just say all living things--but I digress.
