Bill,

I like that pool photo because it shows a Packers fan (you) losing to a Bears fan (Sublime). Smile

I tend to believe everything Sublime tells me, Bill. Maybe he can clarify.

JPB, Got your PM; thanks for the head's up, but don't worry about me. I'm good at traveling alone/independent, and can keep myself busy - especially in Chicago where I have lived several times during my life. Already purchased a two day Go Chicago Card.

My travel itinerary for this year is quite filled up with a 24 and 27 day cruises, 13 days in Tunisia, and an 18 day tour in the Balkans, so will pass on New York. I'm looking at trips to Iceland, and a Yangtse River cruise with Tibet.

If anyone is interested in get-togethers in Chicago, just let me know which dates are good - I have eight flexible days for this last time in Chicago. ha ha ha...

Calling all good (and not so good) Catholics. I caught a segment on MetroMix last night about fish on Fridays during Lent. They had a number of suggestions for dinner and recommended South Water Kitchen for lunch.

Quote:
Executive sous chef Hugh Amano knows that customers don't mess around when it comes to a Friday-night fish fry. "People are ready to take it outside when it comes to whether you serve potato pancakes or French fries on the side," he says. With South Water's new all-you-can-eat Friday special (dinner $20, lunch $15), he's not messing around either. His amped-up version uses Berghoff beer-battered cod, which he serves with a housemade dill-flecked tartar sauce and a tangy apple-cider cole slaw. The meal includes a housemade fruit cobbler to boot. And, for the record, at South Water Kitchen, the side of choice is French fries.

There aren't many Fridays during Lent, and I'm traveling on two of them, but maybe we can make this work.

March 16 - I'm open as long as I get on the 1:35 train coming back
March 23 - no
March 30 - no
April 6 - I'm open, but it's Good Friday which might cause an issue for some.

Is anyone interested?

Gargamel's cryptic response is under the quote within the quote:

I could make it just about anytime, JPB. South Water Kitchen is a brisk walk from where I work.

Yep, caught that, jw. Depending on the weather, it could be a brisk walk from Union Station for me too. It looks like April 6th might work. My kids don't have school that day, but they don't usually want to hang out with me on their days off. Glad to know that Gargamel is in the loop during the daytime.

We'll wait for joe and sublime to check in (maybe Good Friday is a company holiday for sublime) before finalizing plans, but I'll keep the 6th open.

I'll have to double-check my calendar on Monday to make sure, but April 6 should be fine for me.

My daughter Katrina lives in Los Angeles but always wears her Cubs shirt when she goes to Dodgers stadium. She is visiting Chicago in April and told me exciting news:
Quote:
I just purchased cub tickets for the April 17th game at Wrigley! I entered my name into a drawing for the opportunity to buy dugout, bullpen and bleacher box seats. And my name was pulled - so I was able to order reasonably priced tickets online! Yay!

Couple of things to start paying attention to....

First, lunch this Friday -- I think South Water Kitchen takes reservations for lunch. I'll make 'em, but let's decide on a time. I'll be taking the train in, arriving around 11:25. I can walk over to joe's office to meet him and we can go over to the restaurant together. Any time after 11:45 is doable for me. Do any of the rest of you have time preferences?

Second, Walter and CI are coming in late May, early June. Swimpy is also a hopeful attendee. Any others? I know that sublime will be in Minnesota that week and that joe has plans to teach Walter the finer points of baseball at a Cubs game. I'll leave as much of that week open as I can, but I'll be taking the train back and forth, so my evening availability will be limited to the train schedules. We would love it if other's would consider making a trip to Chicago during the same time frame. eoe or 2-packs (Missouri is almost spitting distance)? Anyone else?

South Water Kitchen is within walking distance for me. I'll only have about 45 minutes to eat and chat and tell y'all how amazing my life is, so apologies in advance.
