From snout to tail sounds like pig to me. You know, Chicago was home of the Stockyards and man, it would get pretty stinky around 43, 44, 45 & Halsted. We would go to the Amphitheatre for a show and have to hold our nose on the way in and out.

Well, we made it here! The room seems okay, although some guy with a Nedw York accent was bitching on the elevator that the air conditioning should be better than it is for the price. Can you imagine a New Yorker acting like that? If anybody wants to get together while I'm in town, drop me a pm or let me know if you want my e-mail.

When we were visiting Chicago, I went to a hot dog stand on Race street to have my Chicago hot dog, and they served it with potato chips. It just wasn't the same. ;(

So which are you enjoying more the 100 degree heat, or the torrential downpours.

Don't worry it should be perfect by tomorrow afternoon.

J_B - sorry I can't answer you pm - I still don't have 500 posts. Sublime has my e-mail address, so I've been in touch with him. As of now. we're drying out after walking around between 8:30 and 9:30 tonight, and getting thoroughly drenched. Giordano's pizza was worth the walk, anyway. Right now, it looks as if I have Friday and Monday nights clear. Whatever works for any and/or all of you is fine with me. I look forward to seeing at least some of you.

Monday would be better for me than Friday, if it works out for the others. Otherwise, I'll see what I can do about Friday.

No problem. We're off to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs today. Should be around somewhere the rest of the week. Keep me posted on further developments. I also have a call phone with me, if you need to find us quickly. I'll send the number to sublime.

So far we seem to be ok for Monday. joe is available either night but we need to hear from Sublime. JW, are you able to stay in town Monday evening?

CowDoc, what time would you be available to get together on Monday? What about Friday?

Edit: Sublime is cool with Monday as well. Now we just need to figure out where and when....

It would be nice, J_B. I don't want to make my wife sound bad, but she is generally against the idea of me not coming home immediately. I showed my wife all of Walter's photos of the gathering. She said all the A2Kers at the gathering look like very nice people. However, she said I was probably the only one that has a young child.

Catching up with something I previously wrote here:

from today's Tribune, Section 3, page 3:

Chicago will see this in September

http://i4.tinypic.com/23lck2d.jpg

The re-branding of Marshall Field's to Macy's on State Street moved closer to completion Thursday as the Permit Review Committee of Chicago's Commission on Landmarks approved a proposal to outfit the historic department store in the heart of the Loop with two parapet signs.

The Macy's signs, each 5foot-9-inches tall and 34-feet wide, will be mounted on the cornices of the Marshall Field building at State and Washington Streets, and Randolph and State Streets, as this rendering to the left illustrates.

Macy's will install the signs in September in conjunction with a national branding campaign by the store's new owners, Cincinnati-based Federated Department Stores Inc., which bought Marshall Field's parent, May Department Stores Co., last year.

Here's what I know so far...

We're on for Monday evening.
I will meet MrsDoc at the right lion as you face the entrance to the Art Institute sometime Monday afternoon (how 'bout 1:00?) and give her the cook's tour.
Doc and MrsDoc are available for dinner anytime after 6:00 - 6:30.
The Docs are adventurous eaters and like many ethnic cuisines.
Tuesday is a work day for everyone so it won't be an overly late evening.

Here's my proposal:
After touring the AI with Mrs Doc, I will fend for myself until dinner or I can meet up with joe for a drink before dinner when he's done work for the day, giving the Docs some time together before dinner. 6:00 - 6:30 might be a little early for Sublime so we might want to consider something in his neck of the woods or somewhere that's near some good music for a quick stop after dinner.

joe and/or Sublime (or any of our other recent guests) - Where did you guys go for blues the first night in May (after the Duke of Perth, I believe)? Are there good restaurants nearby? Sublime, do you think you can make it for a 6:30 dinner reservation? Should we move it out to 7:00?

Update: joe and I have come up with a plan.

We'll meet for dinner at the Mambo Grill at 6:30 unless Sublime wants us to change it to 7:00. Mambo Grill

We'll go over to Kingston Mines for some music after dinner. The music starts at 9:30 on Monday so we might want to find somewhere else. I'll have my car and I can get all of us from the Mambo Grill to wherever we end up. I probably won't drive back toward the loop from Halstead but it's an easy cab ride back to the hotel for CowDoc and MrsDoc. Kingston Mines

We may have two more Idahoans who would like to come along, unless her mother passes away in the meantime. If there is room, they will come with us. If not, just let us know. I'm sure Gary and Joyce will understand.

CowDoc, of course all visiting Idahoans are welcome. I can provide admission to up to four guests on my AI membership. I have MrsDoc's cell phone number if she needs to find me, please make sure she has mine. Any, or all of you are welcome to tour the Art Institute with me during the afternoon on Monday.

In the evening we can all meet at Mambo Grill for dinner and although I can't get more than 5 people in my car, everything in the city is a cab ride away. We might have to split into two groups to get over to Kingston Mines after dinner but that's easy enough.

<Sending good thoughts towards Joyce and her mother>

How very sad to see this happening. Could it be a result of the fact that Chicago is now basically a City lacking a middle class?

Will the Field's clock remain after Macy takes over?

Talking about building clocks, the Wrigley Building is missing their hands. I wonder if they ever plan to replace it.
