I have some that are serviced every 6 months and some every 18 months, but most are serviced every
12 months - it all depends on your water and usage.

I will need to know exactly what other filters you have before I can spell out suggested maintenance.

Note: ALL water treatment equipment requires some kind of periodic maintenance/service.

I just called the local service people. The lady, despite several times asking, didn't tell me exactly what parts need service. And, I can't find where my husband put the papers/manual that came with the system. So, I'm not sure what filters all need maintenance. However, she said we should be able to wait until October to get the maintenance (18 months from our purchase date), so it sounds like they are being honest based on your previous reply.

The cost is $395. Sounds high to me, but maybe you know better?

Another question for you... when our salt tank gets low, there is brown slimy looking stuff at the bottom. Is this just from dirty salt, or part of what is getting filtered out? Should we clean it off before adding more salt, and how do we do that? Also, our salt alarm never goes off. Or maybe we don't hear it? Does it matter if the salt tank runs completely out of salt. It's happened before and we noticed it since the water no longer felt "soft"

Thanks again for your advice!

First things first ~ relax Smile

We really need to know what equipment you have and why you have it.
With that information we will make suggestions that will help you maintain your system.

RE: Why we bought the system
Like several other people online, we had the salesman come to our house with the sales pitch. (My husband responded to an add for free donuts, and we ended up buying a water system for several thousand dollars)

We live in a town and have town water. The town had sewer problems a few years back, and the arsenic level in the water is also high. In fact, there have been several articles this summer about the arsenic level being above federal guidelines in the schools - a year after we purchased our system. The schools have provided bottled water for the summer activities as a result. Also, a new development in town has complained about brown water every month from the same town water - also in the paper this summer.

The system we got was supposed to soften water and help remove impurities. We were told it did more than just soften water. The salesman of course mentioned the arsenic, which caused me to say ok to buying the system. I can tell a difference in the water, and it does taste good, but again, I'm not sure what we have, so I'd have to get back to you on that. I'm hoping it is removing arsenic, but how would I know?

Again, I thank you for your time and knowledge. I'll have to check with my husband to see if he knows where the paperwork went for the water system.

Melissa

VERY EXPENSIVE donuts! Proving nothing is free.

Sorry to hear you got ripped off and they want all but $400 for annual service.

If the arsenic was above Federal/State acceptable limits, the water company must treat the water to remove/reduce arsenic or shut off the water until they get it right.

You can get an arsenic test done at any lab or most water treatment dealers.

I read her posts, and they bought a Rainsoft!

They and the Ecowater are two of the worst rip offs there are.

I agree, RainSoft and Culligan are not considered quality H2O treatment equipment for the money charged.

What about the times you refuse to help a poster on a forum until they tell you where they bought their softener from and then berate them for not buying the softener from you?

That doesn't sound like the choir boy, Cub Scout and Boy Scout way to me.Embarrassed

Can you say extortion boys and girls? Rolling Eyes

I'd post a link to just one of the many instances of this behavior but it is against the rules of this forum. Anyone who'd like the link can post an email address and I'll send it to them.

What are you, a PC socialist! You're suggesting I should give more than I already have without expecting and demanding if necessary, and after the fact, that I shouldn't receive a return for my effort time and knowledge.

You've been telling me how I should run my business for about three years now. Steve, you might be surprised as to the amount of business I do. It is tremendous and I'm very grateful for it. I've earned it by being honest and educating my prospective customer my way, thank you.

You want to run a business, start and run your own and we'll compare results by the number of satisfied customers and how few problems each has with the equipment they sell. But then knowing you, you'll probably want to use gross receipts.

You can use Google to find the Scouts' promise, mottoes and slogans and show me where I'm outside any of it.

Nope. not at all. You BELLOW that you help one and all expecting nothing in return for your efforts when the reality is that you keyboard for dollars on other people's forums and then bully, beat up, and extort posters seeking help.

Expecting you to do what you say you do instead of what you actually do is expecting too much from a flip-flopping hypocrite.

I am uniquely aware of hundreds of sales you HAVEN'T MADE and those people are better off for escaping doing business "your way".

Some people continue to make money despite their best efforts not to. The number of customers you screw and mistreat, whether they realize it or not, is not a responsible and ethical businessman/woman's measure of success, but apparently it is yours.

Thanks but I know the Boy Scout Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan by heart having been heavily involved in Scouting back in the day.

I knew and still know REAL Scouts and you sir, are no Boy Scout.

The ONLY part of the Scout Law you observe is thrifty, err I mean CHEAP. You don't come close on "trustworthy, loyal, HELPFUL, FRIENDLY, COURTEOUS, KIND, obedient, clean, or reverent".

For Gary and those others who need refreshing... Click here for Scout Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan

As important as it is to bring your (lack of) ethics and the way you do business and treat people to light in these forums I have decided to take the high road and bring this to a stop... you can continue to live under the high road, under the bridge, with the other TROLLS.

The thread is yours.

How about you attack H2O_MAN or AndyC for a while...

Rainsoft tank.............How much h2o?
hi, i have added two 50lb blocks to my systems tank. how much water should be in the tank where the salt is? how much water is supposed to be maintained in the tank where the salt goes? how do you get the system to regenerate itself twice a week? please help by answering each question. i know how to set the alarm, program to let it know how many lbs of salt are in it. the water level did come over the salt thats now in it after i hit the regeneration button but dropped to about 4 inches or so where it has pretty much been since installation 6 months ago. i notice that the higher the level of water in the tank the better the water feels. thanks again. please answer Each question so i dont get confussed.

Any ideas?
I am very frustrated with my Rainsoft system at the moment.

It isn't using any salt at all and all of our dishes look like crap. I would actually venture to say that the water is harder now than BEFORE we even bought the stupid system. I've left two voice mail messages with our local dealer and had no response.

We are on well water. We've owned the system for a little over two years. We seem to have had problems with it since the beginning.

What can I do to troubleshoot the system myself? I'm a computer programmer, not a handyman! It isn't using any salt at all. What does that mean?

I really appreciate any advice or ideas you guys have!

I'd recommend you start a new thread so your post won't get overlooked tagged to the end of a thread started in 2005.
