im quite an insomnic.. got school in something like (stammer) 4 to 5 hours.. why quit while im ahead i suppose......

You know, global warming will do the same thing as nuking the poles (hmmm, nuking the poles...?), it'll just take longer.

Oh, and in the scenario I read most recently, you all in europe are going to be getting some cooooold winters.

What did you hear about it being diverted? That sounds interesting.

well too much fresh water in the north atlantic may decrease the salanity of the water.. making the water at the top less dense than the water below it so the water will not sink and wont return to the gulf to be reused.. therefore the gulf stream convayor belt will shut down freezing us europeans!!

I heard that the over layer of colder fresh water (ice melt) would smother (but not sink) the gulf stream making the surface colder and causing you colder winters. If the gulf stream just stopped! What else would happen? Scary.

yep it also wil stop the return of water to the carribian... u see while the surface current goes to north western europe there is another current deep in the ocean returning the water to begin the cycle again.... well ports in northern europe would not be able to stay open all year round and we would have horrible winters.. we tend to have wet winters now due to global warming (opposed to the white christmas' we always had up till the early 90's..).. certain crops wouldnt grow here and it would be even shittier to live in these climes...

I'm going to have to go check out some websites. But, why wouldn't the gulf stream continue under the cold water layer to sink against europe and return to the gulf?

well warm water is less dense than cold water, hence it floats on top... salty water is denser than fresh water and will sink... problem is that salt levels are falling and soon the water will not sink when it cools and shutting down the return current to the gulf... convection is the word...
