Movie Title?

A man coats the filaments of a light bulb with a liquid. He reassembles the bulb, turns it on, and the image of a man -- seems to be a coal miner or construction worker -- appears and they can see each other in the light of this special bulb. The inventor pushes the table holding the bulb closer to the apparition, but the cord is too short and the bulb is unplugged.

He next makes a sort of rod with a modified version of the same blub, sort of like a fluorescent light rod with a handle. He goes to an old mansion and turns it on, seeing images and bizarre images like a giant marionette. I believe he is looking for his dead wife's spirit.
