Hip replacement - questions

Hi
My Mum is going into hospital later today for a pre-operation check-up in readiness for a hip replacement, and I had been told that once that was completed we could expect a wait of approx. 14 days.
However, they have asked me to take all of her current medication, to the hospital with me, for the check up.

Does that seem a bit strange to anybody else? Is that standard practice?
I am worried in case they want to keep her in and do it there and then, as she wouldn't understand, and that would be very frightening for her.

Also I am worried about the anaesthetic, as she takes many different medications, including those for epilepsy and high blood pressure. She has had 2 major strokes and 46 minor brain haemorrages, and I am wondering if these issues will increase the danger of going under anaesthetic?

Clueless and concerned

The anesthesiologist needs to know exactly what medications a patient is taking, as well as the dosages. It is critically important. They have to know if any of them will interfere with the drugs used in anesthesia, and compensate for that. Take EVERYTHING. And yes, this is always standard practice. You wouldn't want it any other way.

Also, be ABSOLUTELY sure the anesthesiologist knows her medical history...strokes, hemorrhages, epilepsy and high blood pressure. This will also affect how they administer anesthesia.

Don't worry about them moving up the surgery date. This all sounds like a routine pre-op visit, but if things change for some reason, you can always refuse.

Be prepared to ask lots of questions. The more you know in advance, the less fear. And the easier it will be all around. For both of you.
