whatever...

still think it's a complete waste of the government's time to be involved. period. it's simply being driven by religious zealots and uptight rednecks who have a problem with anything that involves sex.

anybody who has spent much time around gay people knows that the percentage of gays trying to put another notch on the bedpost is about the same as straight folks. news flash! people like to get laid. wow! whoda thunk ??

and when it comes to conversion, i find the religious to be a hell of a lot more evangelically agressive than any of the gay people i've ever known.

but unlike the religious recruiters, i've rarely had to tell a gay person "no thanks" more than once.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Wednesday he will veto a bill that would have made California the first state to legalize same-sex marriage through its elected lawmakers.

Schwarzenegger said the legislation, given final approval Tuesday by lawmakers, would conflict with the intent of voters when they approved an initiative five years ago. Proposition 22 was placed on the ballot to prevent California from recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states or countries.

"We cannot have a system where the people vote and the Legislature derails that vote," the governor's press secretary, Margita Thompson, said in a statement. "Out of respect for the will of the people, the governor will veto (the bill)."

Proposition 22 stated that "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." The bill to be vetoed by Schwarzenegger would have defined marriage as a civil contract between "two persons."

The PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN. 62% voted against it. The legislature CAN NOT OVER-RIDE the voice of the people.

BINGO!!!!

Maybe it should be..."Legislature really shouldn't selectively over ride the voice of the people and ignore other aspects of law"...

Please stay out of our states politics if you are going to stay so woefully misinformed. The people of California have never voted on the subject of whether or not same sex marriage should be allowed in this state. Nor is California ruled by plebiscite.

Chrissee: If Schwarzenegger vetoes, is there a way for your congress to overrule him?
