On a side event, Eduardo Verástegui, the Trump admirer, ultra Catholic, right wing activist, didn't gather enough citizen signatures to be in the ballot as an Independent presidential candidate.
As a good trumpian, he claimed fraud, even if he didn't even gather 25% of the 900,000 ca. signatures needed.

Movimiento Ciudadano (Citizens' Movement) has finally decided for a substitute candidate for President, instead of Samuel García.

Jorge Álvarez Máynez.

Álvárez Máynez, 38, is the coordinator of MC's representatives in the Chamber of Deputies. He's very close to Dante Delgado, the party boss, and was coordinator for the brief campaign of García.

Actually it was governor García and his influencer wife who unveiled the candidacy, in a Tiktok where all three of them were sipping beers. Máynez is presented as "the new new man" for new politics.

It hasn't started well for him. Enrique Alfaro, governor of MC's stronghold, Jalisco, criticized both the form and the substance of Álvarez Maynez "unveiling".
Although the candidate has been a solid representative, he's not well known outside the "red circle" of politically interested people. And, most likely, he lacks the charisma of García.
It seems to me that it will be a merely testimonial candidacy.

A few updates:

Last week all (pre)candidates has their closing (precandicacy) meetings:

Xóchitl Gálvez

As you can see, Mexicans love to gather in big crowds.

Jorge Álvarez Máynez

This week, so far, Claudia Sheinbaum is now the official candidate for the Morena Coalition, Jorge älvarez Máynez is the official candidate for Movimiento Ciudadano and Xóchitl Gálvez is the official candidate for PRD.
Unlike Sheinbaum, she did not have a unified event to become official. Each party wants to party by themselves.

Álvarez Máynez chose (senator and former social-democrat presidential candidate) Patricia Mercado as his proyect coordinator. This means that Movimiento Ciudadano will be clearly moving to the left.

It's good to see the candidates are mostly under 50.

@bobsal u1553115,
Only half of the ones I’ve mentioned are under 50.

For President:
Sheinbaum is 61
Gálvez is 60
Álvarez Máynez is 38

For Mexico City:
Brugada is 59
Chertorivski is 49
Taboada is 38

Of course, they’re kids compared to US candidates.

@fbaezer,
Sheinbaum & Gàlvez appear much younger than their ages—to me.

A telling take of English and Mexican Presidential candidates:

Xóchitl Gálvez is in the US, and has had talks with US government officials about the bilateral relationship between the two countries. The Morena activists in social media have immediately reacted, not about the substance of the talks, but about Xóchitl”s horrible attempts to speak English, comparing them to Claudia Sheinbaum”s fluent English.
The funny thing is that, 6 years ago, when the Front’s candidate, Ricardo Anaya, appeared speaking fluent English, he was attacked by the very same activists, as a man who knew the rest of the world but didn’t know Mexico, unlike proudly monolingual candidate López Obrador.

So knowing English can be an asset or a liability, depending if he’s your guy/gal or not.

There’s so much grasping at the trivial to ignore the substantial in public life now.

@fbaezer,
Yes. I'm 76 in a few weeks but for the most part I'm feeling OK. I expect you know we lost Jane a couple of years ago (pneumonia). I'm still in regular touch with her three daughters and one of her sisters. But damn, I do miss the lady. I'm fully retired now (was doing renovation work here on Vancouver Island where I live) which gives me more time to study the subjects that interest me. So, all in all, it's an agreeable part of my life. Good to see you too. Albuquerque was such a good time.
