"Dear Lord, why can't I win the Lottery?"
answer from above in bass voice.
"Buy a Ticket."

Good idea ehBeth. I think many of us would love to have a get together. Not easy though.

sumac,
Looks like maybe 4 or 5 foot surges in your area. Please be careful.

Yo, I AM going to win the lottery.

Till then though, kittens receiving group hugs at least 10 times dailey, and there's work to be done outdoors today. How will I keep fit with all that money though! I'll buy a lake, and send the Lear for ya all. That should take care of a few calories. Very Happy

It's amazing how we have all spent the lottery money. Let's just ALL win. House mortgages paid off, kid's college expenses provided for, favorite charities get a windfall, we all get a group hug......ah,me..sigh.

ehBeth, just sent her an email! Hope she's ok!!

After all those years...a sister hears from her bro. remarkable

POOLE, Neb. - It took more than 60 years, but the final letter of a soldier killed in World War II finally made it home.

Gary Mathis bought a box of old newspapers at a yard sale in Kansas, and discovered the letter inside a newspaper from 1915. The letter's envelope has military post office markings dated March 6, 1944.

It was addressed to W.J. Krotz of nearby Poole, about 120 miles west of Lincoln.

Mathis placed an announcement and picture of the letter in the Ravenna News, hoping someone might know the family.

Louise Kisling said she heard about her brother's letter through word of mouth. Clinton Krotz, an infantry soldier in Italy during the war, was killed in action on May 8, 1944. The letter was the last one he sent home.

In the letter, her brother thanked his parents for a wristwatch they had sent as a birthday gift, as well as some candy and nuts.

Kisling said her only disappointment was that her parents never got the chance to see the letter. An envelope within the letter was postmarked by the Poole post office, Kisling said. She was not sure how it ended up in Kansas.

Mystery aside, Kisling is grateful.

"We sure appreciate the man that saved it," she said. "It's amazing a letter can come back after all these years."

The sandpaper is something I made for a close friend living in Folsom, CA close to Sacramento. You must know of course that No. 1 sandpaper consists of ONE INCH stones cemented to a piece of paper. We have over the years given each other unusual and witty things. He last gave me a calculator that had the numbers changed on the buttons to read only ONES and ZEROS - that was because I had been in control of the US Army's ROTC advertising and recruiting budget for the Western Region. Prior to that I had received a card from him that had dotted circles for two nickels - but had only ONE nickel along with a note that we didn't have TWO nickels to rub together.

Things like that are fun. As in when he and family moved to the San Francisco area I gave him a simulated personal seismograph to place on his desk.

The sandpaper I gave him was one - one inch stone glued to a piece of cardboard with the depiction of my avatar on the reverse.

---------------

That is wonderful news about the soldiers letter.

ehBeth,
I hope sumac made it out of the area. Also, wayfarer should get some rain from this storm.

Yeah, I just read that pwayfarer can expect Ophelia to annoy her sometime over the weekend.

Here's hoping both of "our" ladies, as well as other east coasters get past this storm comfortably.

Danon, what a neat story! Friends are a joy, arn't they?

I thought perhaps you were working on a new construction project, the sandpaper a clue for the wildclickers to figure out. So what I got fer thinkin' was another cool story. Thanks.

Did sumac leave her home? omg, i hope she and the kittens safe!

From another forum, one of the members went back to his home in N.O., through the muck and mud to rescue his three cats! No word yet if the cats are ok - but we're hopeing for good news. He and his family were evacuated though, and safe.

Another story today from N.O. - a 74 year old man was resuced after two weeks alone in his home with a little pit bull puppy. Rescue workers, were breaking down doors attempting to find people who were still alive, <and also removing remains of people who did not survive> and found the man and his dog. Both are recovering from their ordeal.

There are still animal rescue groups also working in the storm inflicted areas, animals being removed and relocated to other states. It is amazing that after two weeks, with toxins poisoning the water, animals and people are still alive and being rescued.

Stradee, What a tragic situation that it takes two weeks to find people still stranded.

Oh, by the way. I don't know if you noticed my new Location in my avatar. The measurement for Latitude begins at 0 degrees at the Equator and goes North and South until it reaches the Poles. At those points it traveled 90 degrees. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS 91 DEGREES. Big grin. That would place me in the Twilight Zone. Well, maybe that's where I am. Shocked Very Happy Very Happy
