Smoking

This has been on my mind for a while an with the change in laws approaching Ijust thought Id bring it up.

Im aware there are places traditionally known for smoking,eg pubs, that is fine and I even tho I dont like smoke I wouldnt expect it to be banned from a pub.

Anyhoo, I digress from what I want to ask.

If somebody offered me a cigarette, should I say 'No' or 'No thank you'

Ignore the fact that dont know im a non smoker.
Should I be narked off that Im being offered the increased chance of getting cancer, and therefore be blunt by saying a plain NO?

I would call it a rarely seen courtesy, and say no thanks. That is, I would consider the intent behind the offer. You might say "Thanks, I don't smoke.", but I do.

In fact, I only make the offer to a smoker who is stranded. Otherwise, I prefer to save the money.

Fair enough, Im not knocking smokers/smoking(except it smells like poo and that cancer thing).
Id like to have a vice like smoking or drug taking.Sadly my vice is junk food so my only discourtesy is being slightly chubby.

If some one offerred you a big piece of chocolate cake, would you say, thank you after the no or yes? Even though what they are offerring is not healthy or could lead to you gaining weight and other health issues, most would say thank you.

You are thanking the person for the offer, for thinking of you and being generous rather than what they are actually offering you.

Though, I don't think "No" a terribly blunt answer.

I've been offered pot, by the way, and turned it down by saying I don't smoke - and this with a lit cigarette in hand. It seems an acceptable answer.

Yea I am a smoker, and If I am offering you a ciggabutt I am not doing it to be rude at all, just trying not to offend you by smoking in front of you and not offering.. cuz if you are a smoker and someone is right in front of you with one, it makes u want one even more

So I'd go with the No thank you... I am sure they aren't trying to offend you... People will say no thanks I don't smoke to me...

And Roger I have had pot offered to me many a time and now I turn it down... I just say I don't smoke, no peer pressure or anything...

I rarely offer up my ciggies unless it is someone I know or think smokes.
In that case: it is preventing them from having to suffer and watch me smoke while they crave.. Smile

I would find a simple "no" or a "no thank you" or "I don't smoke" all to be fine. Any answer basically ...so long as they spare me a non-smoking tirade
