Details, please. What did you do? What did you think?
It was quite an enjoyable time. Pretty much saw the whole city, spent four days there. Hit a lot of restaurants, checked out Bourbon Street (overrated), toured the cemeteries, did some stuff on the water, drank prodigious amounts of beer, talked to an old-timer selling peaches in some remote corner of the city, had many conversations with street people and crack-heads, stuff like that. Regular vacation stuff.
mmmm, sounds wonderful.
The current situation there breaks my heart. I truly love that city, the people, the culture. I agree with you on Bourbon St being overrated, but walking along, popping in and out of the different bars along the way to catch the different bands is fun. I hope you avoided Pat O'Briens, it's awful.
Agreed, it does sound wonderful!
I always figured Gus to be a Hummingbird kind of fella.
The Hummingbird was/is a greasy spoon joint with a flophouse upstairs.
St. Charles Ave.
I wonder if they are still in business.
I was on St. Charles quite a bit. Don't recall seeing The Hummingbird.
As a matter of fact, of all the restaurants and bars I hung around in, which was quite a few, I can't remember a damn single one of them.
There was one bar that I liked so much, near the original cemetery, that I stopped there three times.
Very nice waitress.
