That ball of twine should be in Mitchell, South Dakota, outside the Corn Palace.

That's where the damn thing belongs.

No, I know why Gus is going to New Orleans.

They're not tough on fake ID's.

"But Slappy, Gus is over 21!" you may react.

Anyone else notice how Gus is going to meet "someone" in Kansas City? What's Kansas City? Land of dumb inbreds...aka, underage girls who are easy to pick up on chat rooms.

I'm on to you, Gus....and hey, good luck.

The appalachain trail ends in North, GA.

Hmmm.... lived in GA for 5 years and can't think of any one thing for you to do. Drive some back highways, check out Athens (I'd avoid Hotlanta if you have no real desire to go there).

Northern GA is gawgeous!

So, Gus, is your 'friend' hiking the trail?

No, New Orleans is fine. But gustav should make a detour to
San Diego and pick me up - I've never been to New Orleans.

Just over the border into NC there's a great little place on The Trail for panning.

Yep, there's gold in them there hills.

You could always go back by way of Raleigh (hint)

The elephant in the room is Bryson's book on the A.Trail, which I trust your friend has read. If not, stop in a bookstore, it will be a comfort to him or her.
