`Tsunami' and `tidal waves' are misnomer

Tsunami and tidal waves are not very good description for the phenomena where a large body of water travels and floods land.

`tsunami' means `harbour wave' and tidal wave infers it has something to do with tides.

Whats a better word for this phenomena?
