True story...
When I was a substitute teacher in Verdun Catholic HS (Montreal Quebec) in the 70's, one of the more amusing English assignments was to have students write out the lyrics of any popular song, and then write sound-alike "alternate lyrics" for them.
Extra points for singing them in front of the class.
One student chose “All Through the Night”:
~~~~~
Sleep a lot, and peas offend thee
All through the night.
Gargling angels God will rent thee
All though the night.
Soft the drowsy horses creeping
Chip and Dale in slumbers leaping,
While the Lord His natchos keeping
All through the night...
~~~~~
Another song was "Sound of Silence". If I find the "re-lyrics", I'll post them. Some of these were pretty hilarious.
Of course there were Christmas songs too. I hope I can find the file; it's buried somewhere in my office.
@Seizan,
Ah, Mondegreens! They're always fun.
@jespah,
I thought a mondegreen was just for a line or two. But I just found that an entire song can be a mondegreen...
I used to think CCR sang "I see a Batwoman risin'".
