Meanwhile, smaller Naadam festivals held throughout the countryside tend to be more relaxed, personal, and participatory.

personal: What does the author want to express by using "personal"? The games are attended by everyone besides professionals? There are games that tailored to everyone?

(Notice: This is an article concerning the Naadam festival, too.)

Thank you.

trans, "personal" simply means closer and having things in common; more relaxed and free to chat.

May I suggest that you preface your questions with a brief explanatory message so that our readers understand the context.

I'm not deliberated to take somebody into trouble. I use complicated sentence because I'm not sure of my English ability. I don't know if I have make my questions clear. So, you know, if I use simple sentence, I just don't know if it is clear.

And thank you for your reply and suggestion.

I understand, trans. English is a difficult language to master. Stick around and you will get help here, as I have on languages other than my own.

Dear Translatorcz,

It is possible that «intimate» would here be a suitable synonym for «personal».

We may contrast it with «impersonal». The lobby of a bank is impersonal. The crowd in a railway station is impersonal. There are no exchanges of personal information in such places.

But it is only my opinion!

Warm regards, Smile

Goldmund
