and hard to get by as a child;
10-year-old charged in slaying of boy, 3

By Globe Staff and Wires, 3/28/2003

OODBRIDGE - A 10-year-old boy was charged with murder yesterday for allegedly luring a 3-year-old boy out of a library, beating him with a baseball bat, and sexually assaulting him before dumping the body in a ditch. The charges were filed hours after the victim, Amir Beeks, died. The 10-year-old, who was not identified by authorities, was charged with murder, felony murder, kidnapping, illegal weapons possession, and aggravated sexual assault. Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan said the 10-year-old cannot be tried as an adult. (AP)

I read this story earlier on CNN. Pretty sickening... What happened to kids doing things like breaking someone's window or stealing candy? 10 years old... Jeez! So very sad...

I wouldn't even have known how to do those things at age 10.

Raising Our Community
I don't want to scare you guys, but things like this are perfectly understandable in our society.

It's unfortunate, but I think our own children's violence will increase quite a bit before people even start noticing, thinking things through, and changing our human direction for the better.

For someone like Uday Hussein (incredible article here!)
this kind of behavior is simply the way the world is. That's all they've lived with and seen.

But to many families strung out with modern stress and isolation,
their waking nightmares are really not much different from Uday's.

When will we care about them? When was the last time most of us said Hi to our neighbors right next door, actually got to know them, help them, and be involved? Modern conveniences let us shut everyone out, and what a nightmare that is to the human spirit.

It takes an entire village to raise a child. Let's stop blaming others okay? It's our society, for us to shape and build. This is not TV you know, where you can just sit, do nothing but judge. We are part of our environment. We are the thing we complain about. We have the ability to participate.

I'm tired of so many of my good friends committing suicide. No one stops to even notice. Society is so overloaded and numb now, it will take far greater shocks to wake it up than ever before.

Some days, I'd rather be an aborigine.

CodeBorg I agree with you we are they and as such must take responsibility for what happens in our society.

Actually the words are "hard to get by, just upon a smile"...

-big Cat Stevens fan

Now that I've lost everything to you
You say you wanna start something new
And it's breakin' my heart you're leavin'
Baby, I'm grievin'
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
I'll always remember you like a child, girl

You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do
And it's breakin' my heart in two
Because I never wanna see you a sad girl
Don't be a bad girl
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

Chorus

Baby, I love you
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

Chorus

One of my favorite songs! Smile

Actually, I think dyslexia holds a Class A License for Artistic Liberty.

The rest of us will have to struggle along with our Learners Permits,
until our creative humours come of age.
